erex Material Handling has launched the new generation Demag V-type crane, which sets new standards in the industry. The V-type design uses less material, helping to reduce the depletion of raw materials. V-type girders weigh, on average, 17% less than comparable box-section profile girders. This reduced crane deadweight produces less wheel pressure, minimising the forces transmitted to the existing building structure and increasing the maximum load capacity. Consequently, the new Demag V-type crane provides architects with greater freedom in planning new factory buildings. The design is also suitable for companies, who wish to employ additional lifting equipment in existing assembly and production bays. The patent pending design, which features diaphragm joints, also cuts oscillation of the crane girder by up to 30%. The reduced oscillation characteristics cause lower loads to be transmitted to the crane, its components and the building structure, doubling the service life of the crane to more than 500,000 load changes.

BOS 5K global with new laser variants
CSL provide innovative pallet handling solution A
s an established company providing bespoke solutions to meet customer’s individual handling requirements, Conveyor Systems Ltd (CSL) was asked to review proposals for a new fully automated lorry loading system handling full
pallets.The requirements had to facilitate the handling of unwrapped wooden CHEP pallets (1200 x 1000mm) weighing in excess of 1.2 tonnes, with anticipated throughput of 250 pallets per hour to be presented as pairs, side by side for loading via an existing vehicle loading system that can fills a 40 feet long trailer in a matter of minutes. An initial competitor’s proposal included a combination of turntables and chain transfers, but this failed to meet throughput requirements due to the large amount of time taken up by 90 degree movements of individual pallets. Therefore, CSL had to consider a new and innovative design approach to the project in order to achieve the customer’s

design was accepted as the best solution and integrated into the existing system. CSL’s proposal incorporated wide heavy duty tapered roller bends to keep the pallets running continuously, which achieved a vastly improved flow and provided the capability to meet the customers throughput, whilst accurately presenting the pallets to allow easy loading. Unwrapped pallets are fed onto the new CSL system from production via a number of conveyors from various parts of the factory. The system had to be a bespoke build as the layout included for a powerful vertical lift system to handle two 1.2 tonne pallets, using encoders for accurate positioning between the height of the existing production conveyors and the vehicles. The system also included both 90 & 180 degree heavy duty bends.

The special compact optical sensors in BOS 5K design with dimensions of 31.5 x 19.5 x 10.8 mm can fit into the smallest of installation spaces. The portfolio now includes laser variants with impressive characteristics such as high power reserves, simple operation, rapid installation and a low price. A diffuse sensor with HGA and 300 mm sensing range is available as well as a retro-reflective sensor with 10 m range. The through-beam sensor even allows a distance of 30m between the emitter and receiver. All sensors have one thing in common: a focused light beam with a bright light spot that is highly visible over long distances. The new laser class 1 sensors with degree of protection IP 67 are suitable for all applications where smaller objects or small gaps between objects must be detected, even in front of a background.
