Museum of Latin American Art 628 Alamitos Avenue Long Beach, CA 90802 (562) 437-1689

In a city with a strong Latino

community, it comes as a breath of fresh air to have a museum devoted to the modern and contemporary art of Latin America. Founded less than 20 years ago in 1996, the Museum of Latin American Art is in fact the only museum in the United States dedicated to such works.

More than just wanting to bring culture to the neighborhood, MOLAA wants to ensure that it brings the people to the culture. In 2012, MOLAA was able to raise enough money to purchase a bus for their MOLAA On The MOVE program. The plan is to provide gallery tours and art workshops to students in addition to reaching out to local schools. For those wanting to visit but who are no longer students, the museum is open Wednesday through Sunday and admission is always free on Sunday.

The Getty Center is one of the best known museums in the Los Angeles area and has been providing a platform for audiences the world over to admire exquisite art for close to two decades. At any time, the plethora of exhibits attracts global visitors as well as LA locals.

Norton Simon Museum 411 West Colorado Boulevard Pasadena, CA 91105 (626) 449-6840

Can you recall a time when you left a museum and wished you had spent just a few more minutes gazing upon a particular sculpture or painting? Wish no more. The Norton Simon Museum has a 3-D wall accessible through their website that can display 100 works at a time. You can scroll away to your heart’s content.

EXCLUSIVE COLLECTIONS GALLERIES

The art alone can make a visitor swoon, but one more reason has been added to the list of reasons people cannot get enough of it. In 2013, The Getty began its Open Content program, allowing downloads and unrestricted use of its digital content. More than 87,000 images are now available to anyone, for any purpose, completely free of charge.

Art lovers, rejoice.

The virtual attraction is, however, no substitute for the real thing. If the weather permits — as Southern California weather almost always does — be sure to take some time to peruse the outdoor sculpture garden. In addition to the remarkable sculptures, the 79,000-square-foot- garden features two grand trees, a large pond, a waterfall, and plenty of greenery.
