• Hexagon Classics: Hexagon has been selling early to modern classics from its London showrooms for over 50 years. “Tere’s one fundamental tenet that I apply to any classic car purchase: I only buy cars that — if they don’t sell — I’d be happy to own at the price I’ve paid,” says Paul Michaels, Hexagon chairman. Te classic car market has been very strong for the past couple of years — and rare and original sought aſter examples from the classic marques have appreciated considerably. While in some cases the most valuable cars make owners think twice about using them, at the more accessible end of the spectrum, there are cars that are fun to drive — practical ownership propositions. “Our Modern Classics division in North London specialises in really usable cars that more or less offer zero depreciation, in the £30,000 to £150,000 range. I think the last of the air-cooled Porsches — the
993 model — represents
good value, starting at £35,000, and offers an exhilarating, depreciation-proof motoring experience, even by today’s standards,” adds Paul. Hexagon Classics division, based in South Kensington, deals with the major classics in the £100,000 to £1.5m range. “At this level of expenditure — you have really got to do your homework — generally Aston Martin and Ferrari lead the market. Any rare, original, low-mileage example of these marques appeals to a wider global audience. We have a unique coach-built Ferrari in stock at the moment that would get you invited to most of the major historic car events in the world and provide the satisfaction that you know you’ll never encounter another example. Te price of such exclusivity? “A fair bit under £1m — or about 35% of the price of Tracey Emin’s ‘My Bed’ art installation,” notes Paul, with no trace of irony!
