exhibiting at boat shows since the 1960s and has been at Lido since the early days. And it doesn’t sound like the folks there plan to stop exhibiting anytime soon. “Even with the addition of the internet


and email, boat shows are still relevant in that they provide customers with a convenient venue to see all sizes and models of boats in a single location,” Brian Hovey said. “They also provide a display for boating accessories that help keep current boaters interested

Boat Show in 1978, Stan Miller Yachts helped get the show established and has been coming back ever since. “The boat shows are the only place


where you can gather all of the products at once at the same time. You can look online, you can research, but I don’t think it comes to life


with new boating upgrades and also help potential new boating customers become energized with the idea of family boating, cruising and sportfishing.” Hovey knows that nothing can beat the


tactile quality of a boat show. “Looking at boats online and calling the broker on the phone is a good start; however, the opportunity to see the boat in person, view the engine room and interior dimensions, walk through the layout and give the boat a personal inspection is something that can only be learned by visiting the boat, and the show is an excellent opportunity to


experience the boats,” he said. “Attending the show allows the customer to learn about the details of several boats at the same time in a single location, much more complete that online or on the phone.” Hovey’s advice for boat show attendees?


“It is best to contact your broker ahead of time and obtain a short list of the boats in the show that best fit your boating interests and needs. The broker can do some preliminary research into the history of the boats and their recent maintenance and upgrade history.”

the kind of boat you want.” So, what’s in it for the brokers? “I like


seeing my customers,” Buettner said. “I like being able to see old and new faces at the boat show, and getting them interested in what we represent and how we represent things.”
