help restore a local nature reserve. The volunteer day came about after members of Lincolnshire Co-op won Bourne Leisure and Travel Weekly’s Bourne Community Champions competition – launched earlier this year to find an agency truly committed to making a difference. Entrants included Travel Counsellors’ Karon Edmunds, who proposed backing Reuben’s Retreat; Pole Travel’s Jill Waite, who wanted to support a local dance troupe; and Sarah Clough and Linda Smith from Midcounties Co-op, who are supporters of Teenage Cancer Trust. In the end, four finalists made the shortlist, as chosen

Their winning entry focused on a project to
restore the nature reserve at the Burgh Angling Society in Farlesthorpe – and four frontline agents joined the Bourne team for a day’s hard work. Louise Tansey, national sales manager for Bourne
Leisure, said: “We were delighted with all the entries and the amazing support agents are providing to their local communities. Every single entry showed great dedication and commitment to a local project or cause, and we were pleased to give practical support to a truly worthy winner.” Wayne Dennett added: “It is always a pleasure to take time out of our busy days to give something back and to support strong local initiatives. Community initiatives rely on support from organisations like Bourne Leisure and Lincolnshire Co-operative to enable them to continue the great work that they do in the area and our work here has certainly strengthened their ties with the local community.” Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly, said: “We were delighted to team up with Bourne Leisure to support those agents giving something back to their communities. We know how generous travel agents and agencies are, and it’s fantastic to be able to feature those efforts in Travel Weekly.” In addition to the day of community support, the winners
also received a £250 donation from the Bourne team, and will have their efforts featured on stage as guests of Bourne Leisure at the Travel Weekly Northern Ball.
