EMEX SHOW PREVIEW L

arge public and private sector organisations in the UK are sensitive to rising energy prices because, these days, energy accounts for a large part of their operating costs. These sectors are also responsible for a significant proportion of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. If the UK is to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050, energy efficiency will have to increase across all sectors. Furthermore, with the need for companies with over 250 employees or with a turnover of £50 Million or higher to comply with the new EU mandatory Energy Savings Op- portunity Scheme (ESOS) by 2015 and with energy prices set to rise by 20 to 30% every year, organisations are changing the way they look at their energy management. There is paradigm shift that is very much required as energy efficiency is set to be the new frontier of competitiveness. Lord Redesdale, CEO of the EMA says,

“There is an old belief that you can always swallow or even worse, pass onto the supply chain any increase of your energy bill. But given the magnitude of changes required and potential huge rise in energy prices, will this strategy make your business uncompetitive? Many procurement officers are starting to ask is how actually energy efficient is your company as a member of my supply chain?”

“So, energy efficiency will become one of the most important activities companies and individuals can undertake to make their energy costs affordable. We therefore need to rapidly improve the standing of the Energy Management profession and those working within it; establish best-practice in Energy Management; put Energy Management at the heart of British business which are the objectives the EMA has set out to deliver with leading businesses such as Morrisons, Debenhams, Pfizer, Vodafone, O2, Boots, RBS group and Marks & Spencer, amongst others. Furthermore, the organisations we

represent have pledged their support to create a new market place that addresses all these challenges and so EMEX was born”. EMEX is a brand new event that focuses on educating those who are responsible for managing energy and reducing its consumption. With public sector budgets under constant scrutiny, EMEX brings together over 100 leading suppliers and more than 70 free targeted seminars together with energy managers, policy and decision makers to help them control their energy consumption. Whether you work as an energy manager, facilities manager or are in procurement from public or private sector, you will find out about EMA-led initiatives and how these can make your organisation more competitive in the current markets.

“IPSEM is pleased to be supporting EMEX as there is a great need in the public sector to understand and get to grips with all aspects of energy management, which is key to the reduction of its carbon footprint and thus achieve the targets set by Government. This event is a must for our members to attend, as it will showcase ideas and solutions to help them reach that target. We are also very excited that the 2014 Public Sector Sustainability Awards will be presented by Lord Redesdale at a special ceremony at 3.00 pm on the first day of the event - another great reason for our members/ readers to attend EMEX.” said Ralph Scrivens, Publisher/Editor at IPSEM. The list of companies exhibiting at EMEX is climbing well over 100 and currently includes npower, Utility Wise, RBS Group, Dalkia and Blue Sky Peterborough. BlueSky Peterborough, a ground breaking project, which saw the Peterborough local council, set the current gold standard for reducing energy demand on a massive scale. The project addresses rising energy prices whilst providing access to regeneration and growth for the local economy through energy led funding solutions.

Seminar theatres at EMEX will be based on four themes: Energy Service & Performance Contracting (EnPC), Energy Management Training, Energy Use in the Built Environment and Green IT & Technology. Attendees will have access to exclusive case studies, expert presentations and a first look at important legislative changes, which will affect many businesses. Training and the role of the Energy Manager within businesses will be a main focus of the exhibition. Facilities Management companies, BIFM, BFG and BSEM, will be there and up to 1,000 training companies are set to come along and present their staff training solutions. Top tier partner associations mean an impressive range of experienced speakers will cover the hottest industry topics during over 80 seminar sessions. Andy Davey from DECC will be talking about the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), including case studies showing possible financial returns and an updates on latest policy developments. Panoramic Power will be presenting a session on The Changing Landscape of Energy Management Solutions. Attendees can also look forward to a Political Question Time, tackling some of the biggest energy challenges and each party’s view on the solutions. The panel is set to include, Matt Hancock, Angela Eagle and Ed Davey. Taking place on the 19th and 20th November 2014 at the Excel in London, the free-to-attend event is relevant for everyone responsible for managing and reducing his or her organisation’s energy consumption and expenditure, as well as providers of energy saving solutions.
