Celanese starts US expansion


Celanese broke ground last month on a major expan- sion of its manufacturing operation at Florence in Kentucky, USA that will see it add production scale compounding facilities. The new compounding unit will begin production in the first quarter of 2015, according to the company. Other additions to the Florence facility include new prototyping and product development capabilities. “Our manufacturing


facility in northern Ken- tucky is a centre for innovation that drives research and development and the advancement of high performance engi- neered materials,” said Phil McDivitt, vice president and general manager of the Celanese engineered materials business. ❙ www.celanese.com


BYK opens its new USA additives production plant


Germany’s Altana group officially opened its new US$50 million BYK additives produc- tion plant at Wallingford in Connecticut, USA, earlier this month.


The investment, the largest


Altana has ever made outside of Germany, doubles the company’s production capacity for additives in the USA. It will also enhance supply chain security for BYK’s additives customers worldwide, said the company. “This expansion enables us


to efficiently service our US customers with an enhanced portfolio of BYK additives manufactured in a facility built to the highest standards of safety”, said Dirk Plas, president of BYK USA. Aside from the Wallingford


facility, BYK has USA produc- tion sites at Gonzales and Louisville. The company also operates plants at Wesel,

Kempen, Moosburg and Schkopau in Germany, Deventer and Denekamp in the Netherlands, Widnes in the UK, and at Tongling in China. Altana group generated


sales of around €290 million in the USA last year, around 16% of its global revenues. The
