Jean-Michel Cousteau
Paul Gauguin Cruises is proud of our 16-year friendship with famed oceanographer and environmental advocate Jean-Michel Cousteau. For more than four decades, Mr. Cousteau has dedicated himself and his vast experience to communicating to people of all nations and generations his love and concern for our water planet.
We are delighted that Mr. Cousteau will share his passion for the ocean with our guests on Te Gauguin’s February 4 and July 29, 2015, sailings to the Society Islands & Tuamotus; the April 11, 2015, sailing to the Cook Islands & Society Islands; and the November 21, 2015, sailing to the Marquesas, Tuamotus & Society Islands. As our special guest, he will offer a series of lectures with videos of his work in the world’s oceans, as well as accompany several dives from the ship.
Ambassadors of the Environment Youth Program Created by Mr. Cousteau and the Ocean Futures Society, the nonprofit organization he founded in 1999, the Ambassadors of the Environment Youth Program is a unique, groundbreaking program that introduces young travelers to the extraordinary natural wonders of French Polynesia through direct, hands-on, interactive learning. Young Ambassadors (ages 9-17) will explore coral reefs, hike rainforest trails, and visit marae (ancient Polynesian temples). Tey’ll learn how black pearls and vanilla are cultivated, how volcanic islands become coral atolls, how to paddle an outrigger canoe, and the importance of maintaining the ocean’s marine and island ecosystems. Parents are encouraged to join children on eco-excursions and other activities aboard and ashore.
Tis program is available on all cruises from June 10 through August 22 and on the December 23 and 30, 2015, holiday cruises, for a nominal fee of $329–$379 per child.
