Teksid Receives Environmental Leadership Award During the Cummins U.S. Sup-
plier Conference held in Indianapolis on May 1, Cummins recognized iron casting producer Teksid Hierro de Mexico, Frontera, Mexico, with the “Environmental Leadership Award.” Tis award was given in recogni-
tion of the installation of a new sand reclamation system to recover waste foundry silica sand through a mechan- ical and thermal process in its plant located in Frontera, Mexico, in the state of Coahuila, with a total invest- ment of $7.3 million. Advantages of having such a system
include a reduction of new sand ship- ments from the U.S. via rail and a re- duction of more than 3,000 trucks per year of waste sand from the foundry to the landfill. Teksid Hierro de Mexico was the
only supplier that received an award for Environmental Leadership. The
selection committee (who was a combination of both Cummins’ in- direct and direct purchasing leader- ship) valued the minimal impact on the environment and positive effect

Wayne, Ind., Team Al-Fe recently won the first celebrity go-kart race to benefit Snowball Express, a charity for children of fallen military heroes. Te Indianapolis event raised ap- proximately $13,000 for the charity. Te winning team was led by Indy- Car driver Martin Plowman, who drove over the finish line to win the two-hour race by 1.4 seconds. voted unanimously to approve the reso- lution to grant a 12-year tax exemption to Mag-Tec Casting Corp. A diecast- ing specialist, the company is purchas- ing more than $980,000 worth of new equipment. Mag-Tec Casting offers aluminum, magnesium and zinc cast- ings, CNC machining and shot blast finishing, and serves the automotive and electronics industries. Te company expects to create three new jobs within two years of completing the project and retain three existing jobs.
