she helped her students not just sound good but learn techniques to “use their voices well and stay healthy.” She was also a lecturer and clinician for the likes of the Kansas City Lyric Opera, Glimmer- glass Opera, Capital Repertory Company, and National Association of Teachers of Singing (whose Eastern New York chap- ter she founded).


She made her New York City debut at Carnegie Hall in 1980 and was a soloist with regional orchestras, the New York City Ballet, the Boston Opera, and more. She has given recitals and concerts— everything from Gershwin and Ives, to love songs by Brahms and Schumann, to the experimental expressionism of George Crumb—at Albany Pro Musica, area colleges, and other venues.


With a PhD in Spanish from the Univer- sity of Kansas, and later an MS in speech and hearing from Washington Universi- ty, Michael Mudrovic taught at a St. Louis institute for the deaf during the 1980s. He also taught Spanish language and literature at the University of Okla- homa, University of Nevada-Reno, Uni- versity of Tulsa, and Washington Univer- sity before joining Skidmore in 1998. His courses covered Spanish literature and film, including “Spain’s Generation X” and “Gender Benders,” about the poetry of Garcia Lorca and the movies of Pedro Almodóvar. He was active with Universi- ty Without Walls and the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program, which he di- rected from 2009 to 2013.

modern American poetry and the Span- ish renaissance in 1989 and 1990, his scholarship encompassed Spanish poetry and other topics. In 1999 he published Breaking New Ground, on the poetics of Claudio Rodriguez, and in 2008 Mirror,

Mirror on the Page, about Spanish women poets. He also published papers in such journals as Letras Peninsulares, Hispanic Poetry Review, and Romance Quarterly.
