IMPROVING WORKPLACE SAFETY in food and beverage industry
LEAN LABELLING Food processors face pressure to keep costs low. Implementing lean manufacturing can dramatically improve efficiency and profitability by eliminating waste. With Toughwash labels you can ensure the proper tools are available by placing signs for placement in your production area; employees won’t have to search for the tools they need. Toughwash signs can be used to indicate standard work procedures to ensure optimal consistency and quality and reduce uncertainty on the floor. Lubrication points on machines can be

ith Toughwash labels, food and beverage industries can enjoy the
benefits of lean and safety labelling in their production areas. As in other industrial manufacturing facilities they can be used to improve on the job safety and efficiency while guaranteeing food purity and quality for their customers. These labels are able to resist the high pressure and high heat cleaning processes necessary to meet hygiene requirements in food processing.
CHEMICAL RESISTANT Toughwash labels have outstanding durability and support excellent hygiene due to their specialty topcoat, a strong facesheet, engineered label interfaces and edges, superior adhesive and metal detection capabilities. They can be washed, sprayed and scrubbed without peeling off or crumbling. Toughwash resists the acidic and alkaline detergents used in food industry cleaning processes. This label material was tested and
reworked in Brady’s application lab until it resisted the abrasion, chemical exposure and harshest spray conditions mentioned in the Ingress Protection Rating for DIN 40050-9 IP69K. We are confident we have created a label for increased workplace safety that complies with the stringent hygiene requirements in food and beverage industries.

METAL DETECTABLE A metal detectable variant uses steel instead of aluminium. Standard in-line detection equipment will better recognise the label due to steel’s stronger alternating current field generation. The steel detection layer cannot be
accidentally removed from the remainder of the label. Results can vary according to the density of the food product being processed, which is why we encourage testing in your facility to make sure your metal detectors are optimally attuned.
GREATER EMPLOYEE SAFETY The first benefit of a label material that complies with hygiene requirements in food and beverage industries is the potential for greater employee safety. Moving raw materials, interacting with machinery with moving parts, working on wet floors and around harsh chemicals are potential hazards employees in the food processing industry face daily. Most common injuries include over-
exertion, slips, trips and falls and getting caught by or compressed in machinery. Many of these can be prevented by visually communicating the dangers to employees where it matters. ISO- compliant safety signs are an excellent way to do this and now they can be created in Brady’s Toughwash material with its stringent hygiene requirements.

colour-coded using Toughwash signs to remind employees to lubricate equipment and which product to use, avoiding machine breakdown or food contamination. The signs can be used to properly identify replacement parts to empower operators in maintenance issues while yield output and waste reduction are maximised.
PRINTABLE AT YOUR FACILITY To make sure the symbols and messages on your labels and signs remain legible throughout numerous washdown cycles Brady engineered thermal heat transfer printable ink ribbons and a quality topcoat to work together in producing the most permanent print. This enables you to print custom labels for your facility and safety identification needs, allowing rapid response to safety risks true to the spirit of lean manufacturing.
IMPROVE BOTTOM LINE Toughwash labels can be printed with Brady’s BBP31, BBP33, Globalmark and BMP71 printers. Harsh washdown labels offer strong, durable label stocks in addition to an abrasion-resistant print and topcoat to deliver a washdown resistant, metal-detectable solution that meets or exceeds many environmental challenges in food and beverage processing facilities. Consequently, by implementing safety
and lean labelling in production areas food processors can improve their bottom line by strengthening employee safety and efficiency, reducing waste and maximising yield.
