A project close to the heart is “Esther.” In 2012 a group

went on a medical mission trip to Tanzania, Africa. T e trip included three doctors, three pastors, two nurse practitioners, a nurse, dentist, pharmacist, engineer, two recent college graduates, a medical supply salesman, an accountant, a church worker and photographer. Zion’s endowment gave $7,000 toward this mission.

But members also collected, packed and brought to Tan- zania $250,000 worth of medicine, medical supplies and water fi lters, allowing the group to heal and assess health conditions for more than 1,500 people. While there participants met Esther (last name not

given), who had a severely deformed jaw. She was 10 years old and weighed 40 pounds. She could only open her mouth enough to stick in her thumb. Her teeth didn’t meet, so she couldn’t chew and her speech was unclear. One of the doctors said, “If we bring her back to America, she can be healed.” And so the group did.

Two surgeries later, she is healed. An estimated $750,000 was donated from surgeons, orthodontists, den- tists, labs and radiology departments to change Esther’s life and follow Jesus’ command: “Let the little children come to me” (Luke 18:16). From the

original $7,000, God has blessed more than $1 million for Esther’s heal- ing. Yet another love story—and parishioners believe Katie and Doug would approve. 

Among the characters of the Old Testament, one sails above all the rest. Who else, more than five centuries old, engineers an ark, and rides the stormy seas with his family and a boatload of God’s magnificent creatures? In Noah: The Man, The Ark, The Flood from the Men’s NetWork, you’ll encounter a man of faith who believed—and obeyed—even when doing so seemed foolish.
