But that’s only $1 million of the $19 mil- lion ELCA members gave to ELCA World Hunger in 2013 (www.elca. org/hunger). Most funds go toward international relief, education, advo- cacy and international development work—benefiting more than 800 million people across the globe who are chronically hungry.


Storm tragedy


At presstime there were no reports of damage to ELCA congregations, but Lutheran Disaster Response was busy assessing the aftermath of April storms that killed at least 28 and affected thousands across the Mid- west, South and East. “Our prayers are with those in our synod and in all of the places impacted,” said H. Julian Gordy, bishop of the Southeastern Synod. Young reformers Are you a young reformer or do you know one? The Lutheran World Fed- eration is building a Global Young Reformers Network, connecting Lutherans aged 18 to 30. Leaders hope to facilitate “virtual and per- sonal encounters on a global level” between young people who want to reform the church, said LWF youth secretary Caroline Richter.
