Rewarding innovation and forward thinking

The Footwear Industry Awards took place at the National Motorcycle Museum last month. Friends and colleagues joined together to celebrate the successes of the past year, rewarding the people, retailers and brands that have captured the industry’s attention.

G

uests enjoyed a Champagne reception, followed by a sumptuous three course meal with fine wine. The evening was

compered by comedian Ian Moore and included 23 award presentations for outstanding performance, a charity ‘Red & Black’ fundraiser, in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance and Footwear Friends, followed by an after dinner casino with fabulous prizes up for grabs, including an iPad 4 with retina display (16GB, WiFi); a night’s accommodation, an evening meal and two spa treatments at a top hotel, and a Fortnum and Mason Champagne and Port gift set. Event Director Paul Ryder said: “Now in its

third year, it’s fair to say that the Footwear Industry Awards has established itself as a premium event, having won the support of major brands and the backing of the Independent Footwear Retailers Association, the British Footwear Association and the Society of Shoe Fitters. A fantastic evening, we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.” Footwear Today Advertisement Manager Sue

Wiseman said: “It was lovely to see everyone, we all had so much fun - I’m already looking forward to next year!” Cheryl Taylor, Editor, Footwear Today magazine said: “Retailers put so much effort into their window displays and so I was delighted to hand our brand new retailer award – National Shop Front of the Year – to

Sandalwood, it was so well deserved." Laura West of the Society of Shoe Fitters said: “The event continues to improve year on year and having the casino added a really fun dimension to the evening; everyone enjoyed ‘Red and Black’ too. I hope the Footwear Industry Awards goes on for many more years – we encourage all of our members to come along because everyone is a winner.” Out on a Limb’s Bev Green said: “Fantastic

night, another very professional slick awards and as always brilliantly organised. Well done to all the nominees and winners.” Representing IFRA at the event, Sarah Mason said: “It’s a wonderfully organised evening of networking with other members of our industry, which is so lacking, and with trading being tough, to be given an opportunity to have frank discussions with other retailers and suppliers.

“It’s fantastic to see the Independent sector

so strong in these difficult trading times, with the winners/shortlisted shops proving that customers will support their local shops given the right environment.” Kevin Traynor, General Manager of the British Footwear Association, said: “Yet again the Footwear Industry Awards made for a very exciting evening at what has become its home venue. It was good to see such wide support from across the sector where new talent and traditional values were rightly recognised. The BFA was pleased to see its members selected as winners or highly commended in six

separate categories. It was an evening of fun and entertainment which also saw a great deal of money raised for charity. Footwear Friends were delighted with this outcome as they know how much this will help those from the industry who now need help themselves. This was the first MODA event I have attended and I would like to say thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome.” The night was rounded off with a charity Red & Black in which £15303.03 was raised for Footwear Friends and the Great North Air Ambulance, which was kindly match funded by Charles Clinkard. The Golf Bag by Après ski went to Ross Pickbourne of Camel Active who has donated the prize to Footwear Friends to auction off, while the hotel accommodation, with dinner and two spa treatments went to James North of North Shoes. Over at the casino, the gamble paid off for these lucky winners: 1st prize, an iPad 4 with retina display

(16GB, WiFi): Little Soles –Andrea Marshall. 2nd prize, a night’s accommodation, dinner

and two spa treatments at a top hotel: Marsha Hall handmade shoes –Marsha Hall. 3rd prize, a Fortnum and Mason Champagne and Port gift set Remonte / Rieker – Kenny Stirling and Eileen Chalmers. See you next year!
