KENT LIFE

A unique rural heritage experience, where school groups can discover the vibrant history of the people who lived and worked in the Garden of England over the last 150 years. Step back in time in the vintage village – a collection of historic buildings saved from demolition and carefully reassembled brick by brick. These buildings have been dressed to reflect a number of different eras, from Victorian to Word War II and the 1950s. The WWII cottages even feature an Anderson shelter in the back garden. Pupils can explore the beautiful gardens and

orchard; learn about Kentish traditions at one of the last hand-picked hop gardens in the country; follow the wildlife discovery trail and see the last working coal-fired oast house in Kent. The 28-acre attraction is also a real working farm, so there are plenty of animals to see, including pigs, sheep, ducks, goats and alpacas.

The award-winning education department runs a wide range of special workshops and demonstrations designed to enhance sensory experiences and bring the past to life. Historical periods such as the Victorian and WWII eras, as well as practical sessions involving arts and crafts, food and farming, where pupils can make something to take home with them. Kent Life also offers fully-immersive historical theme days to enrich school visits. These are available for KS1 and KS2 pupils and include all workshops and activities, all-day access to Kent Life and its facilities, access to a dedicated education officer and free parking. All adults are free of charge.
