Laser and diodes Ultrafast laser amplifiers
Spectra-Physics has introduced new ultrafast amplifier products, expanding its portfolio of ultrafast lasers. Among these is the Spitfire Ace, which outputs more than 7W power and greater than 6mJ energy, with less than 35fs pulse width from a regen-only amplifier. The PA (Power Amplifier) version of the Spitfire Ace has a power output of more than 14W and energy of greater than 12mJ. Also available is the Spirit-Nopa, which delivers tuneable high-repetition-rate pulses with pulse widths as short as sub-20fs. The products are ideal for ultrafast spectroscopy and advanced science applications.

Diode laser for medical customers
Lumics has introduced the 1,940nm LuOcean laser diode source for medical customers, which delivers an output power of 10W at 1,940nm, delivered out of a standard silica fibre with a 20μm fibre core (numerical aperture 0.22).
The water absorption peak at 1,940nm has a five times higher absorption rate compared to the peak at 1,470nm, and is suited to surgical surgical applications.
Red laser diode
The Optoelectronics Company, a manufacturer of optoelectronic components and distributor of Oclaro laser diodes and Panasonic glass lenses, has launched the Oclaro HL63163DG, a red laser diode that delivers 100mW single- transverse-mode optical output power at 633nm in the visible wavelength band.

The laser diode module is easy to integrate with a single electrical interface with an industry standard D-sub connector and an SMA-905 fibre connector. For medical applications, the unit can be configured with a red or green pilot beam, thermistor, fibre interlock, monitor diode and user-exchangeable protection window. Operating current and voltage at 10W is 4.5A and 20V, and spectral width of light is 10nm.

The precision coated optical filters feature spectral properties that vary linearly across the length of the filter. They provide an optimum input beam diameter of 0.5 x 10.0mm. Delivering OD4 blocking, they provide high transmission across narrow bandwidths. The filters offer blocking of greater than 4.0 optical density at 1.5 per cent of the laser wavelength. Deep blocking of unwanted light maximises system performance at the required wavelength. The spectral response can be adjusted by simply moving the filter’s position relative to the light source. A single filter can replace multiple dedicated filters, which simplifies system setup and minimises weight. Linear variable bandpass filters are available in VIS a nd NIR models.

Spectroscopy UV-NIR spectrometer platform
Ibsen Photonics has released the Freedom UV-NIR spectrometer platform for integrators of analytical and process control instruments. The Freedom combines compact size, making it suitable for integration into portable and handheld instruments. Features of the Freedom UV-NIR include: high efficiency across the complete 190- 1,100nm range, dimensions of 50 x 50 x 15mm, robust and athermal performance, and flexibility in the choice of detector and electronics.

power in CW and QCW modes. new innovative transmission grating, developed and manufactured by Ibsen Photonics. The grating provides nearly constant diffraction efficiency over the 190-1,100nm range for both polarisations, which makes it suitable for process control, out-of-the-lab environments, as well as handheld and portable instruments.
