CHERRY ON TOP
So, lesbians tend to move real fast in relationships. FACT! Hence the U-haul stereotype, ect. It seems to be a subject that a lot of people write about. They preach about the evils of moving too fast, over com- mitting, and on and on. But when people talk about this subject, they’re always focusing on all of the negative results, of which there are many, instead of focusing on all of the POSITIVE results of moving slow. So this month I want to talk about how to treat your relationship like an amazing meal and savor every bite (warning: this won’t be the only food analogy).
I can see why people move so fast when they find someone they like. It’s hard to find people to like a lot! And when you do, you want to unlock every door, discuss every subject and completely absorb this other human being that you’ve found a connection with. The problem I’ve seen is that in this mass data transfer, some very important stuff can get lost.
One of the sexiest things is to find someone that is content, happy and pleased with herself and her accomplishments. It’s like finding a perfect piece of cake and you get to be the cherry on top. You get to enhance that person, but they don’t depend on you to be a great piece of cake. And you don’t depend on them to be a great fucking cherry. Too many people lose parts of themselves (layers of frosting) to accommodate too much of someone else. And the truth is, most relationships will end. Would you rather walk away half of who you were before you entered, or a better person than before?
That being said, here are some other things that I think people should maintain while in relationships. They might sound really obvious, but surprisingly I see them fall to the wayside far too often.
Friends are Sexy
Maintaining your friendships is extremely important, no matter how much time you want to spend with your new honey. These are the people that will be there whether you’re walking on clouds or spilling your tears on their shoulders. And it’s a very attractive trait to have close friends. It says a lot about a person.
Hobbies, Careers, Responsibilities, Oh My! What people do with their time shapes who they are to an extent. And responsible people that are on top of their shit are so HOTT! Keep your priorities straight and don’t let important things fall off your list just because you want to snuggle for another 2 hours.
Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder As tempting as it is to spend every waking moment with someone, it is a far better idea to have some of your own time. This comes back to savoring your delicious meal. When you spend time apart, the anticipation builds, you appreciate the person much more and in turn you’re even more excited to see them than before.
The end message is enhance instead of complete. You want to be a person that is satisfied with yourself before you try to satisfy someone else. Two is better than one in this situation. Two people, living and loving their own lives that are together are an amazing thing. So go out and find the cherry for the top of your cake. Happy tasting.
