A NEW HOPE FOR T

he Quarrying sector, that has gone through a huge amount of change and endured the worst downturn in

construction for a generation is now emerging with a new direction. John Vardy, Finning General Manager for Quarrying and Mining talks about the strategy Finning has developed over the last two years and how this led to an industry first deal with Hope Construction Materials.

“In recent years there have been some major issues affecting the quarrying sector across the UK, but perhaps the most significant has been the way mobile fleets have been run.

QUARRYING

The pressures on capex have seen quarry operators focus on keeping existing fleets running rather than investing in new equipment, but the expected increase in demand has seen several major plant deals recently announced.

The downtime, fuel and maintenance costs associated with an aging plant fleet can have a significant impact on running a successful operation. Having a ‘spare’ £250,000+ unit sitting in the yard, just in case of breakdown, should be a thing of the past, but eliminating the risk of not having this backup is now key to a successful fleet strategy.
