Chalkface

Hearing from the celebs One of the joys of Twitter is that journalists can reprint the words of the great and the good without all the bother of actually speaking to them. Result all round, and it is now standard practice to download the views of the celebrity pack from Twitter alongside any story, especially if there is joke or quirky angle. So no surprise then after the recent Carling Cup football tie when West Ham capitulated to Manchester City,

the tweets of three celebs were picked up by The Times. We all enjoyed the thoughts of presenter Danny Baker, footballer turned broadcaster Gary Lineker, and one Sean Reddington, director of e-learning company Mind Click and a man apparently heading for a second career in football punditry via social media.

Seasons greetings The highlight for Chalkface of Christmas 2013 – no, we’re serious – was the Christmas Quiz from Towards Maturity. We have images of families up and down the country settling down by the fire after the turkey to attempt such questions as “in our sample what % of learners say they find working in collaboration with team members essential or very useful to learn what they need to do their job?” So come on, what is it – over

90 or 80 or 70 or less than 70? Towards Maturity devised the quiz from responses to its Learning Landscape study, which looked at different companies and job roles to see how staff learn what they need for their job and what motivates them to learn online. Sadly the quiz is now closed.

Office moves One company has decided that if not enough office workers go to the gym then the gym should go to the office workers. A company called Office Fitness has released a range of office-based exercise equipment designed to get the 12 million of us who work in an office to be healthier, more energised and more productive. Chalkface hopes this won’t catch on or we’ll all be turning up to work wearing Lycra and the predominant office smell will be that of a changing room.
