another characteristic is the presence of some form of elastic medium for the sound to travel through. One common element of both sound and vibration is the concept of frequency. In vibration, frequency is defined as the number of times a vibrating structure moves back and forth in a second. Ultrasound is effectively cyclical sound pressure with a frequency greater than the upper limit of human hearing, approximately 20 kilohertz.


Ultrasion has focused its understanding of ultrasound to produce a revolutionary plasticising and moulding concept, replacing the traditional plasticising process of tempered screw and moulding under high pressure. Its key advantages are that it is 90% more energy efficient than traditional alternative micro moulding technologies, and that there is no residence time, which means that the machine can be quickly stopped and restarted, there being no need for warm-up time. Material change is extremely quick and clean.


The process itself is extremely stable, reliable and repetitive, and as already mentioned, the low pressure and high fluidity characteristics inherent in the process allow for the moulding of very thin walls without warpage.
