Winston - planning the way forward
non-membership alike. With this in mind it is recommended that a Youth Development Support Network be established to provide support in the future. T e Ulster Scots Agency deserve credit for breaking new ground in 2013 by taking the initiative to fund the formation of a Novice Juvenile Pipe Band. T e appearance, to say nothing of the performance of the band at the World Pipe Band Championships and the North West P.B. Championships in Portrush proved to be a major statement regarding possibilities for future development of youth project. T is initiative enjoyed the support of instructors from the RSPBANI School: PM Andy McGregor , Mark Carmichael, DS Barney Megoran and Rachel Ferry. T e continuation of the RSPBANI Day School project will have a growing impact on juveniles playing pipes and drums which in turn will lead to the formation of regional or schools’ bands. However, this will
be dependent on 1) Funds being made available to ensure the continuance of the Day School Programme and 2) Local pipe bands buying in to the project by providing real and active support.
Management emphasises that the priority for the RSPBANI School is to see the membership of local pipe bands go from strength to strength; preferably local pipe bands which are
fully interactive in their community. Encouragement is given to all juvenile students of the School to join their local pipe band for competition, local engagements, concert or other community activity. T e second Residential Summer Adventure Programme was held in August ’13 at the NEELB’s Bushmills Education Outdoor Centre. A sincere thanks is due to PM Andy McGregor
