Don’t blush—a slew of studies suggest that having sex offers distinct health benefits.

1. Anxiety management. Researchers from the University of the West of Scotland found that sexually active men and women had significantly lower blood pressure when faced with stressful situations such as public speaking.

2. Migraine relief. A study published in the journal Cephalalgia found that sex might benefit those with intense headaches. Out of about 100 people who suffered from migraines, 60 percent reported that their pain levels improved after having sex with their partner.

3. Improved immunity. In a study involving 112 people, those who had sex one to two times per week had significantly higher saliva levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA), antibodies that fight bacteria, viruses, and toxins.

Happy eating

A hunk of salami may bring you temporary joy, but a regular dose of spinach and other folate-packed produce will make you happier in the long run, according to a new study from the University of Eastern Finland. Researchers analyzed the diets and health of 2,000 middle-aged or older men for an average of 13 to 20 years. They found that those who ate foods high in folate (vitamin B9), including lentils, sunflower seeds, and dark leafy greens, had decreased depression risk, whereas unhealthy foods like sausages, processed meats, and sugary drinks and snacks correlated with depression symptoms.
