Electrical appliances


The voltage in the UAE is 220/240 V and most plug sockets are either the round two-pin or three-pin UK variety. A voltage converter and travel adapter are recommended, especially for US appliances.


Getting around Taxis are reasonably priced and widely available, and can either be flagged down on the street, at specific taxi stands in the city’s malls or booked by calling the TransAD hotline on 600 535353. The silver liveried taxis fleet operates on a meter basis and a tip is not expected but always welcome. For airport transfers there are also specially


registered airport taxis and limo services available.

Tipping is not expected, but is commonly practised in the emirate. Restaurants in the emirate’s hotels often add a service charge of 10% plus a tourism levy of 6% to the bill. This is usually noted in the menu. Additional gratuities are at the discretion of the customer, and 10-15% is deemed acceptable.
