Essential Abu Dhabi

The largest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in terms of landmass, Abu Dhabi is also home to the country’s capital. The emirate also boasts more than 400 kilometres of coastline, almost 200 islands, verdant oases, modern cityscapes and endless expanses of golden-hued desert dunes. Visitors can enjoy a wealth of experiences from trips to ancient forts and traditional desert camps to tours of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and a wide array of exciting watersports.

Business hours and weekends The working week in the UAE is Sunday to Thursday for most companies with government departments, consulates and embassies open from around 8am to 4pm and private sector companies following a 9am to 5pm or similar schedule. Friday is the Islamic holy day and a day off for most people.

Shopping malls and visitor attractions are open seven days a week although there may be reduced operational hours on Fridays.
