Capt. Fred Becker Jr., USN (Ret) (Life Member since 1993): Becker retired July 31, 2013, as president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., he served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He earned a juris doctor (Order of the Coif) from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law in Virginia and a master of business administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.


Maj. William Hill Jr., USA (Ret) (Life Member since 2002): In November 2013, Hill conducted his 88th consecutive monthly aviation safety seminar. A certified flight instructor for more than 20 years, he volunteers up to 20 hours a week as the lead Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety team representative for the Redding, Calif., area. In 2010, the FAA Western Pacific Region honored Hill as safety team representative of the year. Hill’s military career spanned 26 years, including a tour in Vietnam.


Brig. Gen. Michael Kiefer, AUS (Ret) (Life Member since 2004): Kiefer earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and a law degree from the Indiana University School of Law and is licensed to practice. He was enlisted for five years, was commissioned in 1974, and has served various legal and nonlegal National Guard assignments. He currently serves on the MOAA and Voices for America’s Troops boards of directors, chairs MOAA’s Membership Committee, and serves on MOAA’s Governance Committee.


Lt. Joshua Slater, NOAA: On Aug. 9, 2013, Slater was named 2012 Junior Officer of the Year for his achievements as operations officer aboard NOAA ship Nancy Foster. In October 2012, he received gold medal recognition from the acting secretary of the Department of Commerce for his actions during official travel in Hawaii. He rescued a woman and two children from drowning and directed others on the beach to perform lifesaving tasks until emergency personnel arrived.
