Chapter Achievements
From the Field: Golden Isles (Ga.) Chapter
The Golden Isles Chapter (www.gimoaa.org) has expanded its scholarship program. Corporate Projects Chair Col. Vernon Martin, ANG (Ret), solicited local businesses to establish new scholarships. Nalley Automotive Group now funds two new scholarships, and Southeast Georgia Health System funds one. Members, through raffles, fund three $2,000 merit scholarships for local high school students. Two $2,000 privately endowed Rives Memorial Scholarships also are awarded to Junior ROTC cadets.

Col. Daryl Rabert, USMCR (Ret), scholarship chair, says nine students received a total of $18,000 through the scholarship program in 2013 alone.

Northeast Louisiana Chapter
Brig. Gen. James Bonsall, USA (Ret), president of the Northeast Louisiana Chapter (www.moaa.org/chapter/northeastlouisiana), accepted a letter of appreciation from Nell Calloway, director of the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum in Monroe, La. The letter recognized chapter members who helped develop the museum, serve on its staff, provide military speakers for monthly programs, collect oral histories and memorabilia, and act as community coordinators.

Calloway, granddaughter of aviator Army Lt. Gen. Claire Chennault, lets the chapter hold its annual scholarship presentation at the museum.

Grand Strand (S.C.) Chapter
The Grand Strand Chapter (www.grandstrandmoaa.com) and USAA hosted breakfasts for 37 wounded warriors during Military Appreciation Days in Myrtle Beach, S.C. A&I Fire and Water Restoration in Myrtle Beach sponsored the chapter’s parade float, on which wounded warriors rode during the Memorial Day Parade. President Lt. Col. Roger Pilcher, USMC (Ret), and three Junior ROTC scholarship recipients rode in a classic convertible owned by chapter supporter Jim Zimmerman.

Narragansett Bay (R.I.) Chapter
The Narragansett Bay Chapter (www.moaa.org/chapter/narragansettbay) donated two 22-inch TVs with movable wall mounts to the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. Auxiliary members came up with the idea, and the chapter’s board of directors approved the request to use treasury funds to finance the donation. Members also support Fisher House, which provides free or low-cost lodging to families of veterans receiving treatment at military medical centers, and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
