SEED TAPES Dear Gardening Partner:
We at Shumway’s know the importance of being consistant in an ever-changing world. We hold ourselves to high standards that are the fundamentals of our business – integ- rity, value of a dollar, quality of the products we sell, and above all, respect for you, our loyal customers.
We welcome the challenge each year to provide a catalog built on old-fashioned value – one that pays homage to heirloom gardening while bringing something new and exciting for the enjoyment of today’s modern gardener. So this year we bring you a new twist on an old favorite, Swiss Chard Peppermint (below). Ornamental and edible – its unusual coloring takes nothing away from its well-loved traditional fl avor. Take a look at our Red Swan bean (pg.5) – a unique bean that’s a cross between a snap and a pinto with an excellent fl avor. Check out our Wild Boar Series tomatoes (pg.5). Bred for their stripes and colors – you’ll be impressed not only with the looks but the fl avor as well. To make gardening easier and more fruitful we’re offering Grafted Plants (pg.3). They are more disease tolerant, produce faster and longer and the yields are bigger. You’ll defi nitely want to try our Seed Tapes (info at right). These tapes make it so much easier to sow the hard-to-plant seeds such as carrots, lettuce, radishes and beets...with better germination!
