Making tech connect Q

Francesca Reason, head of UK sales and marketing at D-Tech, tells us about the company's year in education

Q A

What sets D-TECH apart from its peers?

D-Tech designs and manufactures high-quality multi-media detection and dispensing technology. We provide university libraries with RFID security, self-service and stock control, RFID sorters and library book vending. What sets us apart from our peers is the relationship between our team and our clients. Excellent customer service with an emphasis on direct contact and support has been crucial to our success. We believe that our job is to provide our customers with the very best, behind-the-scenes, cost-eff ective, bespoke after- sales care. In the words of one of our satisfi ed customers 'D-tech understood what our success meant to us'.

Q A

In your opinion, what has been the most signifi cant

technological development in the UK education sector in 2013?

D-Tech's lendIT product, which is essentially a standalone

24-hour library with a touch screen for users to scroll through available items and a connection to the university's LMS, is a ground- breaking piece of equipment for university libraries. Capable of storing between 200 and 1,000 items, some universities are using lendIT purely to house reservations, and this is proving very successful for them. The possibilities for lendIT as a media store for vendible products are endless.

What challenges currently face the higher education sector?

For D-Tech, the biggest challenge has to be conveying to our clients that with D-Tech, they are not limited to an off -the- shelf product. Due to the fact that D-Tech designs and manufactures our own products, we have the ability to tailor every installation to meet the requirements of our customer and we want our clients to be as creative and as innovative as they want to be.

What are your biggest achievements this year?

One of D-Tech's most memorable achievements for 2013 would have to be partnering with The Reading Agency to sponsor their Summer Reading Challenge, which then led on to an invitation to Downing Street for their Summer Reading Challenge Launch Party. Winning a number of university tenders across Oxford and Cambridge and also the Royal College of Nursing were also major highlights for us.

Q A

Will the student experience continue to be a major focus in 2014?

Most defi nitely. With an increased interest from

universities in our laptop self- service and charging units we feel that this product combined with lendIT and our ever- popular self-service range enriches the student experience and continues to bestow effi ciency

and fl exibility on the university library. ET
