Bourns releases new semi-shielded power inductors

Bourns has released a number of new Power Inductor models designed using semi-magnetic shielding technology. Bourns has a total of seven SRN models with a range of 3x3 mm to 10x10 mm footprints, 1 mm to 6 mm heights and 0.5 μH to 470 μH inductance. Instead of a conventional ferrite shield, the magnetic shield of the SRN series utilizes an epoxy-ferrite powder mixture resin. This compound is applied to the perimeter of the inductor which completely envelops the winding. As a result, the SRN series inductors provide effective magnetic shielding while emitting lower radiation compared to non-shielded inductors.

In addition, the models offer a reduced footprint and cost savings to comparably-sized conventional ferrite shield inductors. The semi-shielded SRN series inductors combine the features of non-shielded and shielded inductors, making them ideal for use in DC/DC converters which provide power management to mobile electronic devices, computers, data storage and consumer electronics. The SRN series is also well- suited for industrial applications such as LED lighting, control circuits and GPS.

New external microphone reduces noise for enhanced in-car voice communication

supreme sound quality oF unidirectional microphone enables drivers to communicate saFely and eFFectively with minimal noise interFerence

Avnet Abacus has announced availability of a new high-performance external car microphone developed by Kingstate, a leading manufacturer of electro-acoustic components.

This new unidirectional microphone is optimised to deliver the very highest quality acoustics and noise reduction capability essential for the safe use of in-car multimedia, communications and satellite navigation systems. It features high (-37dBV) supercardioid sensitivity to enhance the definition of reception at the front of the vehicle while reducing sound pick-up from the side and rear, and a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 69dBA, to provide optimal communication performance for speech recognition, voice speed dial and GPS navigation. With overall dimensions of just 11.7mm (diameter) x 25.5mm, the

compact microphone is encased in lightweight and durable aluminium alloy. High frequency noise is effectively filtered out, thanks to the deployment of a high-performance junction gate field-effect transistor (JFET) at the core of the electret condenser microphone (ECM), plus a low pass filter (LPF) output circuit that detects and passes low frequency signals.

Kingstate has more than 30 years’ experience in the development of advanced electro-acoustic products, including piezo buzzers, magnetic buzzers, micro speakers, dynamic receivers, electret condenser microphones and earphones. These products, including the new external car microphone, are fully supported across Europe by the applications and sales teams of Avnet Abacus.
