When I install a pad eye on the outside of my kayak, I use the same bolts to install another pad eye inside the hull. Not only does this give me a place to tie off gear inside the hull, but it also strengthens the pad eye on the outside of the boat. For a more secure connection, add a washer and a dollop of sealant between the inner pad eye and the plastic hull. Tying my extra paddle and gear bag to the pad eye inside the boat makes it easier to retrieve the stuff when I need it on the water. This technique also works with Yak Attack Might Mounts.
