Riding high Gerstlauer looks to 2014
Gerstlauer Amusement Rides looks poised for another prolific year of ride deliveries in 2014 following a successful 2013. “This was a very good year for us,” smiles
Siegfried Gerstlauer, the German manufacturer’s managing director. One of the highlights was The Smiler, the world record-setting 14-inversion coaster delivered to Alton Towers in England. The company also installed its 50th coaster, Karacho, at the same park it installed its first ever rollercoaster, Tripsdrill in Germany. Further coaster installations included Rattenmühle at Familypark Neusiedlersee in Austria (see elsewhere on this page)).
Opening on 1 November as part of the park’s
Fright Night event, Abyss is a new EuroFighter coaster at Adventure World in Perth, western Australia. The ride promises a signature 30m vertical lift, beyond-vertical first drop, rollover loop, zero-G roll, inline loop and a cobra roll. In total the coaster boasts 630m of track and reaches a top speed of 85kmh.

On to 2014 and Compagnie des Alpes has ordered a EuroFighter as part of its plans to relaunch SindiPark in Morocco. The Prater in
Rattenmühle thrills guests at
Familypark Neusiedlersee Austria’s Familypark Neusiedlersee, near the lake of the same name, closes for the end of the season on 27 October.
As of last month, over 100,000 guests had ridden the new Rattenmühle (Rats’ Mill) rollercoaster that opened in June. It is the park’s second rollercoaster, following the introduction in 2010 of Götterblitz by Mack. Next season Familypark will introduce a new, larger version of its Flic Flac (Butterfly) ride from Heege, which has operated successfully for the last 15 years. The replacement, which will feature a 27m V-shaped track instead of the previous 21m together with a custom-themed car (pictured below), will be supplied by Austria’s own Sunkid, which acquired Heege in 2009.

Karacho – new this season at Tripsdrill, Germany
Vienna will get a spinning coaster, operated by concessionaire Dallinger and, as reported last issue, Dollywood in Tennessee will introduce a Family Coaster called Fire Chaser, featuring one forward launch, one backwards launch and a reversing section. Bakken near Copenhagen, Denmark, is line for a Sky Roller ride featuring a re-designed structure and cable drive system, while a Sky Fly is set for an unnamed Asian park.
Mack’s Mega
Coaster success Since opening Blue Fire at the family’s own Europa-Park in 2010, Mack Rides’ Mega Coaster has become quite a hit. A second versions of the ride is already in use at Etnaland in Sicily (pictured), and further examples will open over the next 12 months at Sochi Park in Russia, IMG World of Adventures in Dubai, Nigloland in France and Qihe Happy World in China. The latter will take another, unannounced ride from Mack, while IMG has now signed up for a spinning coaster from the company in addition to the LSM launch Mega Coaster that will feature as part of its Jurassic Dream themed area. Already well-documented in the trade press is the Helix multi-launch coaser Mack is currently building for Liseberg in Sweden. The longest launch coaster in Europe, it will open this spring.
