Keep Feet Fit – National Shoe Fitting Week
National Shoe Fitting Week will once again be the week before Easter - w/c 12th April 2014
* DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE THIS EVENT BIGGER AND BETTER? If so please let us know a.s.a.p.
* PLEASE MAKE CONTACT WITH ALL YOUR LOCAL MEDIA/PODIATRISTS/G.P.’S/SCHOOLS/NURSERYS ETC. WELL IN ADVANCE AS THEY MAY HAVE SOME IDEAS HOW THEY CAN WORK WITH YOU AND INCLUDE YOU IN SOME OF THEIR PROMOTIONAL PLANS.
* YOU ALSO NEED TO MAKE FULL USE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES ON THE LEAD UP AND DURING THE EVENT AND ENCOURAGE ALL YOUR SUPPLIERS TO DO THE SAME. THIS DOESN’T COST THEM A PENNY, BUT IT HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF BUYING SHOES AND HAVING THEM FITTED….AND THAT HAS TO BE GOOD FOR ALL OF US!
If you have over 4 years experience fitting footwear, adding orthotics etc.
and would like to become a member of our organisation you can take our Entrance Application for only £50.
Alternatively for those who need proper shoe fitting training and would
like to gain our qualification (and only our members can say they are 'expert fitters', or 'qualified shoe fitters' - otherwise you are a 'trained' fitter) then there are still course places available at the MODA reduced rate of only £500.
Please contact:
secretary@shoefitters-uk.org for more information and if you would like to help/participate in National Shoe Fitting Week 2014.
Nicholas Parry-Billings THIS PROMOTION IS FOR ALL THE SHOE TRADE! We really need your
input over the next month or so as we need to plan our advertising and promotion. PLEASE let us know what sort of promotional material would you like to receive? We are aiming to provide posters in two sizes again – or maybe make the A4 poster a show card instead?…what do you want?
It would be great if branded footwear companies helped with the cost.
Despite lots of shops and suppliers getting involved last year the only contributor financially was the CFHR, so with the weight of professional advertising agencies and P.R. companies we could all make an amazing splash for the footwear industry. Everyone can play their part with promotion on Twitter, Facebook etc. and should use it to gain publicity for their business. Lots of shops enjoyed doing so last year with staff coming up with some great ideas to decorate their shops and create local promotions that involved other businesses in their vicinity - as well as networking with local health clinics, podiatrists, reflexologists etc. all of whom have a voice to the public.
THIS PROMOTION IS ABOUT SHOE FITTING AND THE IMPORTANCE OF FIT…BUT THE KEY MESSAGE IS PERSONAL SERVICE….
Going to shops whether independent or multiple and being 'served' is
vital to the national economy. For the shoe trade if retail doors shut, the choice of footwear available to the public will be extremely limited, many suppliers will close, which is not good for anyone - but the bigger picture is that councils lose revenue, people are unemployed and the number of services a shop uses are reduced, therefore the unemployment stretches further. This is a big responsibility and we should all take it seriously. This is a chance to join forces to fight to keep shops open, particularly the independents. By doing so brands are well represented and the public properly fitted.... which in turn saves the NHS in remedial care for years to come.
6 • FOOTWEAR TODAY • OCTOBER 2013 This month sees the retirement of
someone who has had a major, largely unsung, impact on the growth and success of British footwear exports. Nicholas Parry-Billings is leaving the British Footwear Association where he has worked for nearly 20 years. During this time, he has worked
tirelessly and with huge enthusiasm to place UK footwear at the forefront of world markets and his shrewd advice and extensive knowledge of "how it all works" has helped British brands move successfully into many countries. He has forged excellent relations with UKTI, the UK Government agency, and with the key exhibition organisers to ensure that UK labels get the best deals, the best locations and the best financial support possible. Over and above this, his quirky personality and infectious energy have
Nicholas Parry-Billings
also helped raise the profile of the footwear industry abroad and has made sure that the industry - in his own words - "punches above its weight" - something that could be applied to himself ! As a result of his vision, the British Footwear Association has developed
an innovative and comprehensive strategy for supporting all exporting brands, small or large, and has even more plans to explore new routes to market in both mature and growing countries. The trade would like to thank him for all that he has achieved for the British footwear industry and to wish Nicholas a long and happy retirement.
