Contents Dear Reader,

Welcome to the October issue of Education Today. We’ve a lot of news in this month’s magazine, as well as the first in a new series entitled “View from the classroom”, in which we go through the school gates to talk to the most important people in UK education – the teachers. This month, we speak to Sharon Milner, head teacher at Brooke Hill Academy in Rutland, to find out about life as an academy head, and to hear about the collaboration between her school and another local school, Edith Weston Primary.

Elsewhere, we hear from Simon Roberts, Director

of the Teaching School at The Arthur Terry School in the West Midlands, about the issues surrounding teacher training and how things are steadily improving, and we showcase the great work two UK secondary schools from very different areas are doing instilling a sense of social responsibility in their students through community work and charity fund-raising.

There are also the usual sections covering the main sectors in UK education, from ICT and Resources to Buildings and Health & Hygiene.

I love to hear from you, so please keep in touch with us via phone, email, Twitter via @EdTodayMag and via our Facebook page. Until next month, enjoy the issue!
