installed for trials on 01-Series trains operating on the Ginza Line of Tokyo Metro and the results were satisfactory. As a result, the PMSM Propulsion system has been commercially produced for installation on four Tokyo Metro train fleets: * Marunouchi Line 02-Series train
refurbishment in 2009 * Ginza Line new 1000-Series trains
in 2009 * Chiyoda Line new 16000-Series
trains in 2010, and * Tozai Line 05-Series train refurbishment in 2013.

Moreover, PMSM traction systems
have also been installed for trials this year on a Keio Corporation 8000-Series train which is being refurbished, and satisfactory energy savings have been measured during operation.
In the Kansai area of western Japan, PMSM were applied for trials in 8000-Series trains of Hankyu Corporation in 2012 with excellent test results.

As a result, Hankyu Corporation has decided this year to install PMSM traction systems on its new 1000-
Series trains. Thanks to these good energy-saving
results in Japan, PMSM Propulsion systems will be applied in Singapore for C151-Series trains as part of their refurbishment (Table 1). Trials are due to start in 2015.
To satisfy the growing need globally
to reduce the LCC of rail vehicle systems, Toshiba intends to lead the application of PMSM Propulsion systems with their high reliability and to continue the development of energy-saving technology such as the application of silicon carbide (SiC) traction inverters.
