The Center for Legal Inclusiveness announced it selected Karen Hester as its new executive director. She is the former director of diversity and inclusion at the University of Kansas School of Law. She is an accomplished trainer, pre- senter, and author. Hester also practiced law for sev- eral years. In her new role, she will focus on growing membership and expanding the network of the Center for Legal Inclusiveness. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, an LL.M. in taxation from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law, an M.S. in student person- nel and counseling, and a B.S. in mathematics from Kansas State University.


Managing Director Stroz Friedberg


Alicia Villarreal is now the managing director of Stroz Friedberg’s Los Angeles offi ce. The fi rm special- izes in global intelligence, investigations, and risk services. Villarreal will be responsible for leading complex internal investiga- tions, as well as conduct- ing intelligence and due diligence matters for clients across the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Prior to her position at Stroz Friedberg, she was a regional representative for the U.S. Secretary of Labor. In that position, she was a liaison to federal, state, and local government offi cials and agencies, large and small businesses, academic institutions, nonprofi ts, and other key stakeholders in the western U.S. She earned her B.S.W., J.D., and M.P.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.


VALERIA STOKES


Chief Diversity Offi cer and Chief Human Resources Offi cer American Bar Association


Dr. Valeria Stokes has been named chief diversity offi cer and chief human resources offi cer of the American Bar Association (ABA). In this position, she is responsible for maintaining the ABA’s long-standing commitment to diversity. Previously Stokes developed corporate diversity and business solutions to ACCO Brands, Kmart, Women’s Food Service Forum, and Shore Bank. At AT&T Wireless, she established diversity affi nity groups and oversaw development and imple- mentation of strategy for supplier diversity. Stokes earned her B.S. at Creighton University, M.S. at University of Nebraska Medical Center, and her Ed.D. in Adult Continuing Education, HR and Organizational Development from Northern Illinois University.


LI-HSIEN (LILY)


RIN-LAURES, M.D. Executive Committee Member Marshall, Gerstein & Borun


Marshall, Gerstein & Borun has elected Partner Li-Hsien (Lily) Rin-Laures, M.D. to its Executive Committee, where she joins fellow Partner Robert M. Gerstein and Managing Partner Jeffrey S. Sharp. She is the fi rst woman partner to hold a position on the Executive Committee. Rin- Laures has over two decades of experience focused in biotechnology and pharmaceu- tical intellectual property law. She has a unique insider’s perspective as a former general counsel of a biotech- nology company. Rin-Laures is also a founding member of the fi rm’s committee on diversity and inclusion, and was recognized as a 2012 Law Firm Rainmaker in Diversity & the Bar. She earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude, her M.D. from Northwestern University, and her B.A., with honors, from Johns Hopkins University.
