anufacturing solutions that are based on today’s ad- vanced machining centers and cells are readily avail- able for the most trouble- some jobs. In the aero-
space industry, these jobs may involve awkward and complex parts in medium to large sizes made from difficult-to-machine materials like titanium or Inconel as well as complete assemblies. For Hansen Engineering Co. (Harbor City, CA), a supplier to Tier One aerospace customers, the challenge was to provide the same quality, precision, and on-time delivery for these chal- lenging parts, which today account for 20% of the shop’s output, as it did for its competitively priced airframe and jet engine parts.
