Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has provisionally awarded a contract to a consortium of Sojitz, Japan, and Larsen & Toubro, India, for Packages 1 and 2 of the Rewari - Iqbalgarh section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. ASSENGER Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) has
awarded a consortium of Thales and local partner Maziya the Rand 1.86bn ($US 186m) Western Cape New Signalling contract, which is a key part of Prasa’s National New Signalling Programme. The contract will include the establishment of the new Cape Town Train Traffic Control Centre, the design, supply and installation of signalling
trackwork on the 626km section. Tendering is also underway for Package 3, which covers construction and trackwork on the remaining 296km section of Phase 1 between Iqbalgarh and Vadodara, together with the contracts for special bridges, electrical works, and signalling and telecommunications. Bids will also be invited soon for Package 7, covering rolling stock and maintenance facilities.

DB orders Škoda trains for Bavaria Algeria
The Ministry of Transport has invited bids for the supply of 17 standard-gauge dmus and 30 locomotive-hauled coaches for Algerian National
Railways (SNTF). A consortium of Italian construction companies Condotte d’Acqua and Rizzani de Eccher has awarded Ansaldo STS a ƒ40m contract to design, supply, install and commission ERTMS on the new 130km mixed-traffic line from Oued Tlelat to Tlemcen. The deal covers the installation of ETCS levels 1 and 2 together with conventional lineside signalling.
Britain
Hitachi Rail Europe has awarded Saira Electronics a contract to supply the on-train metering systems (OTM) for the fleet of Super Express Trains (SETs) ordered under Britain’s Intercity Express
Programme. British railfreight operator Freightliner has acquired Rotterdam-based intermodal operator ERS Railways from Maersk Line.
Czech Republic
Czech Railways (CD) has placed a Koruna 942.7m ($US 46.9m) order with Škoda Transportation for an additional seven Regiopanter emus. Škoda was the only bidder to meet the specific requirements of the tender, which stipulates that delivery must begin within 15 months of the contract being signed. CD will receive the final train by mid-2015.

KODA Transportation is celebrating a landmark
order for its 200km/h 109E electric locomotive (pictured) after German Rail (DB) placed an order for six units, which will be used on push-pull regional trains in southern Germany.
The announcement came after the Bavarian Railway Authority selected DB Regio Oberbayern as the winner of the tender to operate the Ringzug West/NBS concession for 12 years from December 2016.
IRJ July 2013 The concession covers three
routes, all of which will be operated by new trains. DB Regio will use Bombardier Twindexx Vario emus on Treuchtlingen - Munich and Nuremberg - Augsburg services. The Nuremberg - Munich Express services operating on the high- speed line will be operated by Škoda locomotives and 36 200km/h double-deck coaches, also supplied by Škoda which will be formed into six six-car trains.
Germany
Abellio Rail NRW signed a contract with Stadler Pankow on June 12 for 20 dual-system five-car Flirt emus, which will be used on the Dutch-German Lower Rhine Network from December 2016. Upon delivery, Abellio will transfer ownership to Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association (VRR), which will lease the sets back
to the operator. VRR will invite tenders later this year for up to 70 double- deck trains worth an estimated ƒ600m for regional express
services between Dortmund and Cologne.
Hungary
The National Infrastructure Development Agency (NIF) has issued a tender notice for a contract to equip the Budapest - Lökösháza section of European Corridor IV with
ETCS Level 2. Germany’s Eurogate Intermodal and ICE Holding, Hungary, have acquired all remaining shares in railfreight operator Floyd for an undisclosed sum.
Lithuania
The European Investment Bank has agreed a É50m loan to Lithuanian Railways (LG) to acquire three dmus, six emus and 590 wagons, including 150 tank wagons, 140 open wagons, 100 covered vans and 200 flat wagons.
Norway
Kiruna Wagon, Sweden, has secured its first export order with the signing of a contract for 40 bogie hoppers for Norwegian mining company Raner Gruber.
South Africa
Transnet Freight Rail expects to announce its preferred bidders for the purchase of 599 dual-voltage electric locomotives and 465 diesel locomotives during the second half of this year. The contracts are worth Rand 35bn ($US 3.5bn).
Taiwan
Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) has awarded a consortium of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Toshiba a contract worth around Yen 20bn ($US 204m) for trackwork and electrical & mechanical works on the 9.2km extension of the Kaohsiung - Taipei high-speed line from Taipei Railway Station to Nangang.
Turkey
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) has secured a ƒ200m loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the Istanbul - Ankara high-speed line. This increases EIB loans for the project to ƒ1.5bn. IRJ
