Volvos Roll Back To John F Hunt Following an initial review of the latest Volvo double drum tandem roller at this year’s Hire Show, an association between John F Hunt Hire Centres Ltd and Volvo Construction Equipment has been renewed with the purchase of two DD14 and four DD25w rollers through Volvo’s independent utility dealer – Capital Plant Solutions. “We considered several factors in our purchasing decision,” comments


Director Martin Lavery. “The main reason was in response to a demand for double drum rollers from our customers followed closely by a very competitive package on offer from Volvo and Capital Plant Solutions,” he continues. All six rollers are incremental to John F Hunt Hire Centres’ self-drive hire fleet and will be based at any one of the company’s three hire centre outlets around Greater London and Essex. “The specification of the machines coupled to our previous experience dealing with the team at Volvo were an added endorsement for us,” says Mr Lavery. The Volvo DD25w double drum compactor weighs in at 2.6 tonnes and


features a drum width of 1.2 metres whilst the smaller DD14 sports a drum width of 900mm with an operating weight of 1.5 tonnes. The drums feature dual frequencies operating at either 55Hz or 67 Hz for optimal impact and delivering nominal amplitude of 53 mm on the DD25w and 37mm on the DD14. A pressurized water feed system is directed via four nozzles per drum working in conjunction with spring loaded, self adjusting urethane wipers. Both models afford excellent visibility to the drum edges forward and backward for the machine operator. The machined drum surface with radiused and chamfered edges produce a professional quality finish on each job and a closed loop hydrostatic drive system provides seamless direction changes and a maximum speed of up to 10 kph.
