Richard Kottler, CEO of the BFA commented: "We are delighted John is joining us in this exciting period of development in the BFA. The new role is a critical development in our strategy of providing major support for British footwear companies. John will be the primary link with our increasing membership, and his particular skills and export experience will be invaluable". nine days later, but both of them were subsequently cancelled. The relative success of Micam Shanghai is encouraging its organisers to study a similar project on another continent, most likely the US, but they stress that nothing will happen for at least a year. A total of 250 companies participated in the Micam Shanghai, the first

Micam fair held outside Italy. Of those 60% were Italian with an overwhelming presence from the Marche region. The delegations organised by national shoe industry associations sent over 22 Spaniards, 12 Portuguese, 10 Brazlians and eight Turks. Six French companies, one from Austria, one from Morocco and six from China also took part.

A good start for Micam Shanghai April 9-11 The first edition of Micam Shanghai was hailed as a success by executives

of Anci, the Italian shoe industry association, which is changing its name of Assocalzaturifici Italiani. Held from April 9 to 11, it attracted a total of 4,504 visitors for a total of 5,880 visits to the centrally located Shanghai Exhibition Centre. Noting that the show has been preceded by an intensive campaign, the

organisers said they had ensured that only qualified buyers would have access to the fair. While some of the visitors just came to look around, partly because they were already there for the simultaneous Shanghai Fashion Week, the turnout appears impressive, considering the fact that the multi-brand shoe market is still in its infancy in mainland China. The show was organised in partnership by Anci, Fiera Milano and Hanover Milano Fairs Shanghai (HMFS), a Chinese joint venture of the Milan fair that owns other fairs in China. As previously reported, Messe Dusseldorf has tried to put together a similar event with another local shoe fair in Shanghai

a new association formed last January to create a community around the fair, which remains the first international meeting point to discuss samples and place orders for the next season. Anybody can sign up as a member for a low fee on the fair’s website. The association will be opening its own page on Facebook.
