Project update The National Balsa www.nationalbalsa.

com full kit of the Ziroli Ercoupe www.ziroli plans.com was just covered in Hangar 9 sil- ver. With an estimated final weight in the 14-pound range I spoke with Lucien Miller at Innov8tive Designs for his recommenda- tions about a power system. He suggested

the Cobra 4130/16 with a Kv of 390 spinning a 15–8 APC on an 8-cell pack drawing about 48 amps and delivering 1,400 watts. A Castle Creations Phoenix Edge 100 brushless speed control with the new Edge controller auxiliary line was part of the pow- er setup. Two 4-cell Thunder Power RC TP5000-G8 Pro Lite Plus 25C Li-Po packs provide power and a Tru-Turn 2-inch E- Spinner and prop hub finish things off in the powertrain. The system was wired up, charged and tests run giving the recommended amp draw with plenty of smooth power. Always run full power test outdoors and for less than 10 seconds when possible. All compo- nents stayed cool and worked perfectly each time the system was powered up. I should have a test flight report for next time. Till then fly safely.

Castle Creations’ new Edge series of controllers (above left) are loaded with new features but remain at the same price. Note the new user programmable auxiliary wire that can serve multiple functions on 3-axis gyros or as an arming
