New Courses. New Format. New Certifications.

We are responding to YOUR NEEDS. We are developing NEW COURSES with NEW CONTENT following the best practices for how adults learn. This catalog is full of these new opportunities.

Our curriculum is expanded, starting with entry level knowledge and skills and then building up to the more advanced technology and applications. With our new courses, you’ll see a clear delineation of 100, 200, 300 and 400 level content.

To follow best practices for adult learning, you’ll notice that our new courses are shorter (1 to 2 days); focused on practical skills and immediate job applicability; and more interactive, incorporating discussions and group activities throughout the course, as well as hands-on lab activities whenever applicable. Course attendees will leave the course with participant guides detailing all the critical content and resources they need to start applying their new knowledge and/or skills on the job.

The Institute also is developing brand new competency-based certification programs for our industry. For each certification area, teams of subject matter experts will identify the knowledge, skills and abilities that are needed. Those same experts will then participate in the development of the assessments that will be used to validate whether a person meets those competencies.

Why certification? For manufacturers to continue to innovate and achieve business success in the competitive global market, it is critical that they have access to talented individuals with advanced skills. Providing competency-based, customized education is now necessary to effectively train individuals to fill these positions.

Tentative program areas for metalcasting have been identified based on this year’s market survey. The first few certifications are expected to launch in spring 2014. The ultimate goal, once the programs are developed and rolled out, is for our certifications to be endorsed by NAM (National Association of Manufacturers), and be part of the Manufacturing Skills Certification System.
