Preparing to Lead
When prospective students come to JFS for the first time, it is always a daunting and nerve-racking experience. From busy corridors to crowded lunch queues to a congested bag park,
Officers are appointed to help the School run more smoothly and make the experience
Student for both
students and teachers more pleasant.
After 200 applications and extensive interviews, 130 students from Year 10 were chosen to be Student Officers. This includes LRC Officers, Lunch Hall Officers, Assembly and Open Evening Officers, Peer Buddies and Liaison Officers. We were fortunate enough to take part in a couple of training days developing leadership and communication skills. With numerous activities and workshops, we all found the training very beneficial, whilst improving skills, in
co-operation with others and learning to work well in teams.
As part of being a Student Officer, some students additionally volunteered to be Tour Guides, taking prospective parents around the school. These students were taught by Mr Peston how to interact and communicate with visiting guests.
Student Officers have a very important role. The skills taught in the sessions were very helpful and all the students enjoyed these days. I would definitely encourage any student to volunteer themselves for a role as a Student Officer in order to give back to the School and help school in general run more efficiently.
