Professional String Quartet perform AS Music student Compositions
Our AS Music students had the truly remarkable opportunity to rehearse and record their AS compositions with a visiting professional composer and String Quartet.
Students had worked on their compositions with professional composer Pete Readman earlier in the term. He returned to JFS together with the Santiago String Quartet to record the students’ pieces. Students were required to write a three minute string quartet composition which they had been working on since the start of the course.
Working with several professional musicians provided all students with an invaluable and exciting opportunity, not only to pick up help and advice but also to have their work performed in its
optimum capacity.
All of the musicians were extremely receptive and complimentary about each of the students’ work and were very pleased to be able to work with JFS students again.

‘Life From the Ashes’ Series
Begins The first session of ‘Life from the Ashes’, the series of lectures following on from the highly successful first JFS parent trip to Poland, began with a flourish. Rabbi Daniel Rowe, one of the most
sought after speakers on the Jewish circuit, spoke on the topic of ‘Why the Jews’, and gave a fascinating and insightful exposition on the shocking explanation for the world’s longest hatred.
Those attending were impressed by both the content of the presentation as well as the brilliance of the presenter and

came away with an original and perceptive understanding of this age old question.
The next session is on Thursday 23rd May on the topic of ‘Phoenix from the Ashes’, in which Rabbi Rashi Simon will explore the renaissance and revitalisation of the Jewish world following the destruction of the Holocaust.
