comin’ uP TIMe TO JaCk!

FROM original house club the Warehouse, where Frankie Knuckles forged a new style of electronic music from the (literal) ashes of disco, to the hyper-kinetic, modern day bounce of footwork, the history of Chicago is also the history of house. The city’s influence on electronic music has swept around the world many times over, and while others have been swift to imitate, it’s Chicago which has always kept the fires of innovation burning.

In our DJ Mag USA Chicago special we look at the history of Chicago house – interviewing original heads like Frankie Knuckles and Ralphi Rosario - and catch up with two of Chicago’s recent mavericks, footwork founder RP Boo and the restless Chrissy Murderbot.

YOUANDEWAN is one of those producers who seems to have been on the cusp of breaking though into the big time for years. Although he is in no rush, the first half of 2013 will go a long way to making that a reality. It started with a first full solo EP for two years on Hypercolour, is backed up this month by a new EP for Secretsundaze and will be followed by another on Will Saul’s Simple later in the year. With a choice back catalogue that also includes remixes of Gerry Read and Maya Jane Coles, his is certainly a case of quality over quantity.
