Heavy duty connector with continuous shielding developed for rugged environments
Developed in response to demand for a heavy duty electrical connector with continuous EMC shielding, the 21BV-GS from Multi-Contact has been designed for use with three-phase motors supplied by frequency inverters. The round, single-pole connector accepts Class 5 and 6 cables in accordance with IEC 60228 and is based on Multi-Contact's well- respected 16BV model, which has proved its worth in test facilities, emergency power supplies and switching installations. The 21BV-GS has been designed for use in rugged conditions, such as deep drilling rigs for geothermal energy and power chains for cranes. It provides touch protection when in the unmated state, while a bayonet fixing ensures a secure connection.
The 21 mm nominal diameter connector has been tested to IP65 and IP67, both when mated and with captive sealing caps in place. A remote indication of whether the connector is mated can be provided with an optional microswitch.
Molex introduces stackable, right-angle HS Stac headers
Molex Incorporated has unveiled modular, stackable HS Stac headers that combine the high-speed USCAR-30 HSAutolink interface with the modular, stackable configuration of the Stac64 connector system. With a 0.80mm pitch, the new HS Stac headers achieve greater design- flexibility and space-savings in PCB trace- routing for in-vehicle infotainment and telematic devices.
The connector accepts cables with cross- sections of 300 mm2 and is rated to 1000 V and 600 A. To prevent connection errors, six different mechanical codings are available which can be used for the different phases, neutral etc.

The automotive industry-standard interface, known as USCAR-30, supports USB 2.0 requirements and other high- speed technologies including Low Voltage Differential Signalling (LVDS) and Ethernet for infotainment, telematic devices, car stereo and navigation systems, and driver-assist electronic modules. HS Stac right-angle headers package the USCAR-30 interface found in the
HSAutoLink family in a rugged, shroud-stackable formation and are stackable with the widely deployed Stac64 header family, also from Molex.

Honeywell introduces Limitless wireless non-contact switch
Honeywell has expanded its Limitless Wireless Solutions portfolio with the introduction of its new Non-Contact Switch WLS Series. The new WLS Series switch uses non-contact technology, enabling the device to actuate based on the presence or absence of magnets installed on a customer’s device – making it suitable for harsh operating environments.
The battery-operated switch allows customers to choose either top sensing or side sensing. This flexibility, combined with proven harsh-duty packaging, can increase efficiency and reduce installation and maintenance costs compared to a traditional wired switch. Wireless offers advantages over traditional
wired switches by reducing total installed costs as there are no wires or conduit to install, no cable wear-and-tear to mend, and no cords or connectors that can be damaged in the application. Wireless also increases flexibility by offering easy reconfiguration in remote or temporary installations. Instead of a lever, button, or wobble stick, the switch can be actuated with a magnet, simplifying use in tight areas often found in machine tools, packaging machinery, lifts, ag/construction equipment, and industrial
machines, or in applications where mechanical actuators are not feasible. Designed for rugged environments, the switch’s zinc head and body are phosphate treated and epoxy finished to deliver sealing to IP67 and NEMA 1, 4, 12, 13, and all-stainless steel hardware.

Cyntech Components is stocking additional connector sizes in the Yamaichi Y-Sol4 series. This range of MC-4 compatible, connectors is designed for field assembly, without the need for a crimping tool, simply by screwing the two parts of the connector together. These new connectors extend the existing range by providing for cables with cross- sectional area from 4 to 6mm2

The MC-4 type of connector is a single- contact, in-line format male/female connector defined by its 4mm diameter contact pin and receptacle. Commonly used to connect photovoltaic panels, these connectors feature a high current, high voltage specification combined with a sealed design. Cost pressure in the photovoltaic industry has resulted in a move to cables with thinner outer diameters with lower material costs and Yamaichi has responded to this trend by developing new connectors in its Y- Sol4 range to support cables with cross sections

FCI launches 1.27mm modular connector system
FCI, a developer of connectors and interconnect systems, is launching the Minitek 127, a new modular connector system on a 1.27 (.050”) pitch. According to FCI it is one of the most extensive miniature systems available in the marketplace, capable of a wide variation of board-to-board and cable- to-board interconnections. Known for its various modular
interconnection systems including Dubox (2.54mm pitch), BergStik (2.54mm pitch) and Minitek (2mm) the new Minitek 127 from FCI includes through-mount and surface-mount, as well as straight and right-angle versions, with pin counts up to 100 positions and four plating options. These can be combined in an even greater number of configurations, making the system capable of solving a wide variety of connection challenges.

IDC connectors for discrete wire of flat cable from Lane Electronics
Lane Electronics has announced a comprehensive range of mass- terminated insulation displacement contact (IDC) connectors and mating headers together with a wide selection of application tooling and accessories. Called MAS-CON, it is suitable for board to board power connections since it has the capability to handle up to 12.5A. Produced by PANCON, a leading manufacturer of connectors for PCBs and flat cable connections, MAS-CON connectors can be terminated to discrete wire or flat cable and is the only IDC connector system available with a cable pre-fixation on the sockets.
“Customers have shown an increasing
interest for smaller interconnect packaging sizes for new designs, which makes Minitek 127 an ideal fit,” said Raymond Yuen, FCI Portfolio Director for Commercial Products.

The MAS-CON system is available in 0.1 or 0.156in contact pitches. The 0.1in connectors are available in 2 through 36 ways and the larger pitch connectors are available in 2 through 24 ways. Cables from 18 to 28 AWG discrete or flat wire cable can be terminated. The connectors are colour-coded to identify
the correct wire gauge and each connector incorporates a wire retainer to secure the wire in place prior to termination. Connectors are
available for through or end terminations and flat, polarized and locking header styles can be supplied in straight and right angle configurations.
Accessories available include covers, strain
reliefs, polarizing keys and Lane Electronics can supply the full range of time and labour-saving Pancon termination tooling.
