New high temperature tantalum capacitor from Kemet

Kemet has unveiled its new T500 High Temperature MnO2 Series of tantalum surface mount capacitors. The T500 Series is a high temperature product that offers optimum performance characteristics in applications with operating temperatures up to 200°C. Typical applications include decoupling and filtering for various Measurement-While- Drilling or Monitoring-While-Drilling (MWD) technologies in the down-hole industry and high temperature requirements in the military, aerospace, and automotive industries. Typical markets include alternative energy, industrial/lighting, transportation, and defense and

aerospace. With high reliability, low leakage current and robust mechanical construction, the T500 Series is the lowest total cost solution for high temperature applications, and complement KEMET’s T498, T499, and high temperature ceramic capacitors. “The T500 Series is the first high temperature product offered with an established reliability option and 100% surge current option,” said Dr. Phil Lessner, KEMET Senior Vice President, Chief Technology and Marketing Officer. “With the lowest leakage current of any +200°C rated tantalum surface mount device on the market today, customers are assured of the highest reliability and most surge robust high temperature tantalum capacitors on the market.”

New 6400 Mhz coaxial resonator oscillator maximises performance and efficiency

The new CVCO55CXT-6400-6400 Coaxial Resonator Oscillator (CRO) from Crystek is a coaxial-based VCO with an internal proprietary frequency doubler. The family’s frequency doubling, 2X fundamental technology reaches has achieved new levels of performance, according to the company, in terms of lower phase noise and much lower harmonics, while achieving lower current consumption in the process. The device operates at 6400 MHz with a tuning voltage range of 0.3 Vdc to 4.7 Vdc. This coaxial VCO features a typical phase noise of - 100 dBc/Hz @ 10KHz offset and has good linearity. The CRO exhibits an output power of 5.0 dBm typ. into a 50 ohm load with a supply of +8.0 Vdc and a current consumption of 35 mA (max.).

The CVCO55CXT-6400-6400 CRO is packaged in the industry-standard 0.5-in x 0.5-in package. Pushing and Pulling are both minimised

AEL improves VCTCXOs for stable femtocell applications

Following substantial development, AEL Crystals has unveiled a number of performance improvements to its VT53 Range of VCTCXOs (voltage compensated, temperature controlled crystal oscillators) which are aimed at the growing Smallcell market. This market consists of small cellular base stations, typically used in homes or enterprise/small businesses. It connects to the service provider’s network via broadband (such as DSL). Current designs typically support 2 to 4 active mobile phones (in a residential setting), and 8 to 16 active mobile phones (in enterprise settings). A femtocell allows service providers to extend service coverage indoors, opening up access that could otherwise be limited or unavailable altogether.

Initially available in the frequency range 10 to 26MHz, this range of oscillators are packaged in an ultra-compact 5.0 x 3.2mm format. Despite the small form factor the device is able to offer improved levels of performance. The VCTCXOs are rated at +/-100ppb (+/-0.10ppm) stability over a temperature range of +30ºC to +65ºC; rising to +/-250ppb, +/-0.25ppm when operating at temperatures from -40ºC to +80ºC. The VCTCXOs have been characterised for use with the growing range of chipsets available

for femtocell development, to increase a network’s data range and throughput. In addition to base stations, they can be used in ultra-high stability applications. Stability, with respect to load and voltage changes. has been improved to meet +/-10ppb and aging is specified to +/-3.0ppm maximum over 10 years. The VCTCXOs are available with clipped sine outputs and offer low power consumption (<2.0mA, <6.0mW typical). They operate from 3.3V and have excellent hysteresis and holdover characteristics.

AEL Crystals is currently developing the range, by extending the temperature range and reducing input voltage in sampling.

VPG unveils high-precision Z-Foil surface- mount current sensing chip resistor

Vishay Precision Group’s Foil Resistors brand (VFR) has released a new ultra-high-precision Z-Foil surface-mount current sensing chip resistor that is the industry's first such device to combine a high power rating of 1 W at +70°C and low TCR of ±0.2 ppm/°C typical from -55°C to +125°C, +25°C ref. By dissipating up to 1 W in the 1625 package size, the VCS1625ZP allows designers to use a single device to measure larger currents than previously possible. For high-power applications, the device offers tight tolerances to ±0.2% (0.1% and 0.05% are available) and a four-terminal Kelvin configuration for increased accuracy.

The VCS1625ZP features a power

coefficientof 5 ppm at rated power, a thermal stabilisation time of <1 ns (nominal value achieved within 10 ppm of steady state value), and a wide resistance range from 0.3 Ω to 10 Ω. Any resistance value within this range is available at any tolerance with no additional cost or lead time effect. The resistor offers a rise time of 1.0 ns with effectively no ringing, short time overload of <0.005% (50 ppm), current noise of 0.010 µVrms/V of applied voltage (<-40 dB), and a voltage coefficient of <0.1 ppm/V. The device withstands ESD to at least 25 kV,

for increased reliability, and offers a non-inductive (<0.08 H), non-capacitive design. The Bulk Metal Foil technology of the VCS1625ZP provides a significant reduction of the resistive component's sensitivity to ambient temperature variation (TCR) and to the self-heating effect caused by changing loads.

New technologies, ever diminishing sizes of portable equipment and the demand for lower power consumption are key drivers for miniature electronic components used in a broad range of consumer devices. River Electronics has started to manufacture the smallest micro crystals currently in the world with the ubiquitous 32.768kHz crystal reduced to a miniature size of 1.6 x 1.0mm with a height of just 0.5mm. This latest product has been developed for smart card applications where the crystal is imbedded within the thickness of the card as part of the control and security circuit. River’s micro crystals are also manufactured

from (12 ~ 80)MHz as smd AT cut fundamental designs in packages from 1.2 x 1.0mm and just 0.33mm tall and micro smd oscillators from 1.5 ~ 400MHz with packages ranging from 1.6 x 1.2mm and 0.7mm in height and in conventional resistance weld leaded and pre- formed smd HC-49/U03 units. For automobile and therefore high shock and

vibration applications River products also have approvals to AEC-Q200 standards and an extended working temperature to +105°C for selected products. Total Frequency Control distributes the full range of River Electronics micro crystals and oscillators in the UK.

New ultra-broadband capacitor series addresses DC blocking from 16 KHz to 40GHz

The device's improved stability makes it suitable for tightened-stability reference voltage and precision current sensing applications in forced-balance electronic scales, measurement instrumentation, bridge networks, motor controllers, and medical and test equipment. The device is characterised by extremely low excess noise when compared with other resistor technologies. Additionally, the current in adjacent current carrying paths runs in opposing directions, cancelling the parasitic inductance of these paths.

The VCS1625ZP is available with tin/lead or lead (Pb)-free gold or tin termination options, and with additional post-manufacturing operations (PMO) to extend the operating temperature from +150°C to well above +200°C.
