Spirol's coiled spring pins improve production of laparoscopic surgical devices
through a laparoscopic port. The pin is used to drive the jaw movement at the distal end of the device. However, during pin installation, there was a high insertion force, bending of the pins, damage to the sub-assembly and generation of metallic debris. Since this device was designed to go inside the human body, the possibility of introducing metal debris was completely unacceptable. Spirol provided the solution with its stainless steel, light duty coiled spring pin. One issue identified immediately was that pins, made from 303 stainless steel with no subsequent heat treatment, were being installed into a hardened 416 stainless steel shaft. This was conducive to debris generation from the softer 303 stainless steel knurls. Spirol Industries performed a number of installation tests which confirmed the incompatibility of hardnesses of pin and the host material, as well as the variation in the outer diameter dimensions of the pin. These were the root causes of the debris generation, as well as the other problems.

achine tools are designed to manufacture metallic and other products with high levels of
precision. They are available for fast, long production runs as well as for specialised machining operations. With manufacturers continuously looking to improve the performance of their equipment, machine tool components must be able to perform in the toughest shop floor environments.
The reliability of their
electrical systems is vital and major OEMs now rely upon Adaptaflex electrical conduit systems to provide the protection needed and helping to prevent unnecessary downtime for maintenance. Adaptaflex conduits and connectors for machine tools connect and protect critical electrical cables and components. They must have high mechanical strength, flexibility and abrasion resistance.
They must be suitable for
fast moving and static applications. Ingress protection and protection against oils, coolants and chemicals can also be essential in many environments. GESIPA® G enter 810 TAURUS Tool
with process control A failsafe riveting process is facilitated
by GESIPA’s Process Control technology added to its Taurus Range
ESIPA®’s pneumatic hydraulic riveting tool, Taurus series, is well known to the fastener industry due to its technical
peculiarity of saving up to 68% of the compressed air by its dual use.
Recently, these Taurus Tools were introduced by GESIPA® with a process control mechanism. Explaining the process control mechanism, Stuart Booth, Technical Lead, commented: “Contained within these special Taurus tools, are sensing & processing capabilities that analyses each rivet set, via a real time analysis of traction and stroke during the riveting operation. An immediate feedback is provided to the operator via Green and Red LED’s located on the tool to confirm good or bad rivet setting. Rivets that fail to set according to defined parameters are detected and reported.”
In addition to that, multiple job profiles stored in a computer can be quickly down-loaded into the
tool’s memory, programming it for varying applications. The tool’s internal memory stores data on up to 260,000 rivet sets. The output data can be transmitted in real-time to collection devices, audible/visual signal systems and electronic controllers or downloaded at intervals to provide analysis of the riveting process. The system also identifies failure patterns and memorizes those for failure analysis and troubleshooting.
Considering all the work that is done by these special
Taurus tools, it is notable that all the system components involved are part of the tool itself and each analysis takes less than a microsecond. Moreover,
all
measurement parameters and riveting sequences can be adjusted with special software.

protection type IP 54 and therefore at a lower price. With protection type IP 69K the Ecolab- certified CLA work light is predestined for installation in high-purity and hygienic areas, for example in the food and beverage as well as pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries. However, some applications in these and other sectors require the excellent illumination of a CLA light, although the requirements for the protection type are considerably lower. For such applications Patlite now offers the lower priced CLA work light with protection class 54. Aside from the lower protection type, the new CLA version has the same features as the IP69K version.
Long-lasting, eco-friendly and silent The smooth housing is made of high-strength polycarbonate. The special translucent material provides for even distribution of the light, which is emitted at an angle of 120°, and produces a natural light that is neither too dim nor too bright. Equipped with mercury-free high-performance LEDs, the CLA light bars give off hardly any heat. They generate about 34 percent less heat than conventional fluorescent tubes. With a life of more than 40,000 hours the CLA lights are superior tenfold to existing fluorescent tubes and therefore significantly increase machine availability. Efficiency also plays a major role here: the low power dissipation of the CLAs reduces the energy consumption by more than half compared with a 20 W fluorescent lamp and the carbon dioxide levels are also cut in half. The use of 24 V DC power eliminates the typical annoying humming sound of fluorescent tubes – the CLA lights are absolutely silent, which greatly improves the work environment. The CLA series LED lights withstand temperatures between -40 and +60°C – yet another advantage over conventional fluorescent tubes.
The low-priced, mercury-free LED light bars of the CLA series in the colour “Daylight” are available
in the lengths 300 and 600 millimetres with mounts for many different applications. PATLITE
