configuration software helps users navigate the safety-system design process and apply global best practices.


The SAB tool is available as a free


download from the Rockwell Automation website. It guides engineers through the safety-system design process by providing options for layout, safety Performance Level (PL) analysis and product selection using Allen-Bradley products. The PL analysis uses IFA’s SISTEMA software tool (Safety Integrity Software Tool for Evaluation of Machine Applications) which is based on the globally accepted standard EN ISO 13849-1. “Our recent 2016 global market research outlook study on machinery safety found Rockwell Automation to be the leading global supplier of safeguarding solutions,” said Sal Spada, research director, ARC Advisory Group.

t the SPS/IPC/Drives 2011 in Nuremberg, PATLITE presented a new series of signaling devices, which have been especially designed for rough environments and explosive atmospheres. Besides explosion-proof and maintenance-free LED signal towers of the EDLM and EDWM series, which achieve ATEX guideline 94/9 EC and are suitable for zone 1 and 2, Patlite also offers visual, audible and hybrid products which are suitable for zone 2 and 22. The innovative, explosion-proof signal towers EDLM (3 coloured LED modules) and EDWM (5 coloured LED modules) come with a high-strength main body made of aluminium alloy.


Thanks to their pressure- and flame-proof housing they reach protection IP66. They have been designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres in environments such as (petro-) chemical industries, handling with combustible dusts, production of gas and even in food industries. The terminal block ofthe EDLM and EDWM models is found at the back and provides easy access to the signal tower. The signal towers are suited for flush mount, wall mount and horizontal mount.

(Girona, Spain) has incorporated into 3DExpress a new


functionality to configure, with a single click, the “one camera - multiple lasers system” which avoids capturing occlusions while cutting-off the overall components price. 3DExpress software was presented this November, at the VISION show, with the slogan “3D Machine Vision made Easy” due to its graphical assistance allowing the configuration and debugging of 3D laser acquisition systems without the need of programing skills. Following this key principle, new tools are continually being developed and added to 3DExpress, being the “one camera-multiple lasers configuration” one of the latest advances which will be soon available for download at AQSENSE's webpage. While scanning an object under a laser-triangulation system, some parts of the piece can not be reached by the laser stripe, due to the occlusions created by the object shape and, therefore, no data is obtained from this regions. A typical solution to avoid this problem entailed the use of two cameras, each of them pointing the object in a different angle, with the corresponding price rising and configuration complexity. Thanks to this new 3DExpress functionality, avoiding occlusions is no longer expensive nor difficult. Only a single 2D camera or a 3D camera supporting the definition of multiple Regions of Interests (ROIs), like the Photonfocus 3D03 or Automation Technology C4-series, is needed. The system prompts for how many laser lines are to be detected and by just selecting the appropriate number and correctly adjusting the ROIs where the laser lines are to be expected, 3DExpress calibrates the system, generates the cloud of points from each laser line and merges the information in a single combined output containing all the information.
