Products Technology File New generation of M18 Photo-Sensor

A new generation of M18 photo sensors from Omron is now avail- able with a rugged metal housing for applications that require an extra level of mechanical protection. Complementing the recent launch of the E3FA plastic body M18 photo sensor, the E3FB range allows usage in harsh environments

but still provides identical detection capabilities and the same product type line-up.

Suitable for applications in all industries, the new E3FB photoelec- tric sensors offer high reliability, enhanced EMC protection, high ambient light immuni-

ty and robust waterproof housings, meaning they can meet the requirements of today’s users for non-stop operation. The new sensors feature compact construction, allowing them to be fitted easily even

where space is limited, and a bright LED light source that is clearly visible over long dis- tances, enabling easy alignment and long sensing distance. The diverse product line-up includes all the standard sensor types including thru-beam,

retro-reflective, diffuse and background suppression types. Special models are also available for stable transparent object detection and a limited distance reflective model which provides detection of films, including transparent or mirror finish, without the need for a reflector. A new barcode scanner with fieldbus module has been introduced by SICK in close collaboration with its warehouse and logistics customers. The SICK CLV610, combined with the CDF600-2 fieldbus module, delivers ‘plug and play’ rapid con- figuration and comes in three versions - ECO, CAN and fieldbus - which can be integrated with a wide variety of factory automated control systems, includ- ing PROFIBUS, so it can be used as a replacement or new scanning resource almost anywhere. It is suitable for mounting to all common conveyor systems. Incorporating SICK’s SOPAS user interface and IDpro platform, both common to all new SICK products, the SICK CLV610 can be rapidly set up and configured.

Data is transmitted by the SICK CLV610 to the control system in the desired format, instead of requiring additional programming in the remote controller or PLC, reducing processing time and pos- sible errors. The parameter cloning facility enables a replacement scanner to be installed without time consuming reconfiguration, and the scanner can

Speeding up base/plinth assembly

Rittal has launched its new Flex-Block base/plinth system to speed up the assembly of sheet steel enclosure base/plinths. The system features enhanced, fast, more efficient, tool-free assembly of individual components and logistical processes.

Fast, easy alignment of rotating plant

A new handheld laser optical alignment device has been launched by Schaeffler that enables faster, easier alignment of shafts in rotating equipment such as fans, motors, pumps, gearboxes, ventilators and compressors. Schaeffler’s FAG Top-Laser EQUILIGN is a compact device that guides the user step by step through the measurement process until correct shaft alignment is achieved. Graphical operating instructions and an intu- itive auto-flow function ensure that all main- tenance technicians can use the device,

regardless of their skills or experience. The correct alignment of coupled and uncoupled shafts is critical in order to achieve high efficiency and reliability of rotating equipment - approximately 20% of rotating equipment is incorrectly aligned. A correctly aligned shaft means less friction and vibration are generated by the drive system, which means less wear on belts, pulleys, bearings and seals. This means the running time and reliability of rotating machinery is increased, energy costs are kept to a minimum and overall plant efficiency is improved. FAG Top-Laser EQUILIGN is waterproof and contamination resistant (protected to IP65), which means plant and maintenance engineers can use the device in harsh industrial environments. The device is pow- ered by batteries or rechargeable batteries and so is ready to use at all times. Even in poor light conditions, an integral light meter automatically adapts the brightness of the display to suit the environment. The device also features a reliable real

time display that indicates any horizontal or vertical movements during alignment. Up to 50 measurement files can be stored directly on the device. Even if operation is interrupt- ed, the measurement data is automatically secured and the process can be continued later without any problems. Measurement data can be output in met- ric or imperial units and users can select from 20 available languages, including Russian and Chinese. The device is sup- plied with a practical carry case and a range of accessories including mounting brackets, reflector, chains, posts and batteries. In addition, a set of 360 shims (20 shims

in three sizes and six thicknesses) and a withdrawal tool is available for eliminating vertical misalignment and ‘soft foot’. An Accessory Kit is also available for larger shaft diameters or coupling heights, which includes various sizes of posts and chains, as well as magnetic holders. The system comprises four identical corner modules and covers made of plastic, plus symmetrical sheet steel side trim panels. The modular design and increased assembly space allow the four corner pieces to be quickly fit- ted underneath the enclosure. Once the enclosure is configured, the trim panels are simply clipped into position on the base/plinth with just a few actions. Designed for loads of up to 15,000N, the 100mm high plastic corner mod- ules additionally have hexagonal slots to accommodate adaptor sleeves for stacking 200mm high base/plinths. Levelling feet or twin castors are also accommodated. The system acces- sories permit tool-free baying of the base/plinth, and may be configured individually for each enclosure panel, for example with cable clamp rails. The Flex-Block base/plinth system can combine for all sizes in the TS, SE 8 and CM enclosure series, the TP con- sole systems, and the PC case systems. Rittal additionally offer widths in 300mm for the LCP Liquid Cooling Package climate controlled enclosure. Rittal www.rittal.co.uk T: 01709 704 000 Enter 221
