Nypro Healthcare is to expand its activities in Ireland with the creation of a new medical device manufacturing facility at Waterford. The new plant will manu-
facture advanced respiratory and injectable devices.
“Nypro has operated in
Ireland in Bray since 1980 and in recent years our healthcare business has grown signifi- cantly,” said James O’ Gorman, Vice President, Drug Delivery and Diagnostics at Nypro Healthcare.
“We now plan to create over 200 positions in Waterford to manufacture complex respiratory and injection devices for our pharmaceutical customers worldwide,” he said in a statement. l Nypro Healthcare is part of
Asahi Kasei invests $5m in US
Asahi Kasei Plastics North America is investing US$3 million in a new compounding line at its plant in Fowlerville, Michigan, USA. An additional US$2 million is being spent on other plant upgrades. The new equipment is
expected to be operational by the end of 2013 and will provide a 30% increase in capacity for Thermylene polypropylene compounds and a 10% increase over all product lines. The company also compounds a range of engineering thermoplastics including PA 6, PA 66, POM,
the $1.2bn Nypro group, which is in the process of being acquired by contract manufac- turing giant Jabil Circuit. That plan was approved at a special meeting of Nypro shareholders earlier this month. ❙

Hexpol posts record 2012 result
Swedish polymer compound- ing and components group Hexpol recorded its best ever result in 2012, reporting an 11% increae in sales to SEK8,007m (€943m). The company, which owns
the Elasto and Müller Kunststoffe TPE compound- ing operations, said operat-
ing income for the period was up by 19% to SEK1,069m (€126m). “We continued to strength- en our market positions in all our main markets and also expanded sharply in emerging markets,” said Hexpol president and CEO Georg Brunstam.
He said the company
would continue to focus its effort on increasing its market share and continuing its acquisition strategy, particularly in compounding, which currently accounts for 91% of the group’s total sales. ❙

US-headquartered IPEG, which owns Rapid Granula- tor and The Conair Group, has acquired single-shaft shredder maker Republic Machine, which is also based in the US. IPEG CEO Chris Keller said it will operate the newly acquired business as a division of Rapid Granula- tor, with the shredders sold by both Rapid and Conair channels in North America. The Republic brand and management will be retained. “One of the goals for
